Lucknow Super Giants may have felt the pressure when their star pacer, Mayank Yadav, walked off the field after conceding 13 runs in his opening over. Home team LSG were defending 164 against the power-packed batting line-up of Gujarat Titans, and Mayank Yadav, who was their Player of the Match in the previous two games, was out of the ground with a side strain. Gujarat Titans might have seen this as an opportunity, and so did LSG's fast-bowling sensation - Yash Thakur. He was brought to bowl the final over of the powerplay when the Titans were cruising at 47/0. Thakur dismissed opposition skipper Shubman Gill in his very first over. He finished with figures of 5 for 30 in his 3.5 overs, which also happened to be the first five-wicket haul of the IPL 2024 season.

In domestic cricket, Yash Thakur represents Vidarbha along with Umesh Yadav, Darshan Nalkande, and Jitesh Sharma. In 22 first-class games, Yash Thakur has taken 67 wickets, with his best figures being 5/44. He has also picked 54 wickets from 37 List A games, with his best figures being 5/53. He has performed well in the T20 format, taking 69 wickets in 48 matches with a best of 4/5 and an economy rate of 7.3. Yash Thakur's ability to hit accurate yorkers sets him apart among India's rich pool of talented fast bowlers.

The 25-year-old has the talent and potential to make it to the Indian team if he maintains his current form and performs consistently. Yash Thakur idolized former India captain MS Dhoni and wanted to become a wicketkeeper at the start of his cricketing journey. However, former Vidarbha captain and coach Praveen Hinganikar saw him bowl in nets and then advised him to make a change to fast bowling. Hinganikar had a tough time convincing the youngster to pursue a career in fast bowling, but he managed to do it.

Talking about the match, Lucknow Super Giants bowlers came good during the game against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, April 7. Young Yash Thakur led the bowling department and showed why he is considered one of the best young talents in India. The pacer set the game on fire with the wicket of Shubman Gill to give LSG the crucial breakthrough. Thakur followed it up with the wickets of Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan in the same over to tilt the game in their favour. The Super Giants moved to the 3rd position in the points table after defeating the Titans by 33 runs.
