IPL 2025: Ayush Mhatre roped in by CSK as Ruturaj Gaikwad's replacement?
According to sources, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all set to rope in young Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre as injured Ruturaj Gaikwad's replacement for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. It has been a really challenging T20 season for the five-time champions as they have conceded a total of five losses in a row at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. The Chennai Super Kings are currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with just a single win from as many as five matches this year. CSK will be locking horns with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on 14 April, 2025 scheduled to take place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The Chennai Super Kings recently suffered a huge blow as their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad got ruled out for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2025 season with a fractured elbow. In his absence, MS Dhoni has taken over as the CSK captain for the rest of the tournament. However, it was not the best of starts for the legendary skipper as under his leadership, the Chennai Super Kings suffered a poor 8-wicket loss at the hands of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at home.
Despite getting ruled out for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season, Ruturaj Gaikwad has already confirmed that he will continue to cheer for CSK from the dugout. Therefore, the MS Dhoni-led team has picked Ayush Mhatre as the replacement player, however, he will not be available for LSG vs CSK IPL 2025 match scheduled to begin on Monday.
Incidentally, young Mumbai opening batter Ayush Mhatre has been picked by the Chennai Super Kings at his base price of INR 30 Lakh. While talking about Ayush Mhatre stats in domestic cricket, the young turk has composed a brilliant tally of 504 runs from just 9 first-class matches that includes 2 hundreds and 1 half-century. He has also notched up 458 runs from 7 List A games at an impressive average of over 65 that consists of two centuries and one fifty.
