IPL 2025: Ishan Kishan sends a scintillating message as he gears up to play for SRH
If IPL 2024 was any indication, teams will remain wary of SRH's batting attack in the upcoming edition. The team fell short in the final as Kolkata Knight Riders clinched their third title. However, the runners-up dominated opponents throughout IPL 2024, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head leading the charge. Now, while Abhishek and Head continue in the squad, Ishan Kishan has joined Hyderabad’s arsenal, further strengthening their batting firepower. IPL 2025 marks a significant transition for the wicketkeeper-batter after Mumbai Indians chose not to retain him. Kishan made his way into the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp after the IPL 2024 runners-up secured him for ₹11.25 crore in the mega auction.
Ishan Kishan blazes in orange, hits back-to-back fifties in intra-squad fixtures
With just a week left for IPL 2025 to hit the floors, Ishan Kishan announced his readiness for the upcoming season. The wicket-keeper made waves in the intra-squad matches, showcasing his explosive batting with two rapid-fire half-centuries. In one of the practice games, he hammered a blistering 64 off just 24 balls before following it up with an unbeaten 73 from 30 deliveries, cementing his reputation as a powerhouse in the lineup. Formerly a key player for Mumbai Indians, Kishan wasted no time asserting himself in Sunrisers Hyderabad colors.
Interestingly, his dominant display even eclipsed SRH’s star opener Abhishek Sharma, who managed 28 off just eight balls in the same match. Kishan’s first innings ended in the eighth over when he was caught and bowled by Kamindu Mendis, but by then, he had already made a significant impact. The batter carried his aggressive form into the second match, where he walked in with a mammoth 261-run target to chase and went on a rampage.
The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was one of SRH’s marquee signings at the IPL 2025 mega-auction, securing a ₹11.25 crore deal after being released by Mumbai Indians. Kishan, who had been a key part of MI's setup for seven seasons from 2018 to 2024. Despite his aggressive approach, Kishan had a relatively underwhelming season last year, managing 320 runs in 14 innings with just one half-century as MI finished at the bottom of the table.

Now with SRH, he is expected to take the No.3 spot, following the explosive opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. He will be backed by a formidable middle order featuring Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Sunrisers Hyderabad will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign on March 23, facing Rajasthan Royals at home in a day fixture as part of a doubleheader. After finishing as runners-up to Kolkata Knight Riders last season, SRH will be eager to go one step further as the new campaign approaches.
