While considering both the days of the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL auction 2025), things turned out really well for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI). After retaining a total of five uncapped cricketers ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the MI owners and the management will definitely be a lot satisfied with their picks and they have managed to fill in most of their slots with some wonderful options. Not many would disagree with the fact that the Mumbai Indians did the hardwork before the IPL 2025 auction when they managed to retain all four of their star players in skipper Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav especially after a plethora of controversies and confusions during the IPL 2024 season.
IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians looking a solid unit after the IPL auction
Incidentally, the Mumbai Indians entered the second day of the IPL auction 2025 with the second highest purse size and they also had a number of slots to complete their squad for the upcoming season. Without much of doubt, the MI management pulled off a masterstroke when they bought England's swashbuckling batter Will Jacks at a steal deal of INR 5.25 Crore. Their other highlighting points were the acquisition of the pace bowling duo of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar at a price of INR 12.5 and 9.25 Crore respectively.
New Zealand's senior left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner who can also contribute really well with the bat lower down the order, was another valuable pick by the Mumbai Indians having bought him at an amount worth INR 2 Crore. The trio of Naman Dhir, Karn Sharma and Reece Topley were very good picks at nominal prices by the five-time IPL winners. The Mumbai Indians also took home Afghanistan's young off-spinner Allah Ghazanfar at a whopping amount of INR 4.8 Crore.
In order to settle all the confusions, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has already been announced as the MI captain for the Indian Premier League 2025 season. It is almost certain that the duo of Rohit Sharma and Will Jacks will open the batting for Mumbai Indians. After having announced retirement from T20I cricket, Rohit is expected to play in the IPL 2025 season with a lot of freedom especially after poor performances during the last few editions of the cash-rich T20 league. The Mumbai Indians have a pretty settled middle-order with the trio of Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.
After showing his exploits in the previous season of the T20 competition, the Mumbai Indians once again brought back swashbuckling all-rounder Naman Dhir at a price of INR 5.25 Crore. Jharkhand's explosive wicket-keeper batter Robin Minz will be a definite starter in the MI playing XI during the IPL 2025 season. While considering their bowling attack, Mitchell Santner is expected to be the specialist spinner alongside the likes of Naman and Will Jacks as the part-time options. On the other hand, the trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar will be the fast bowlers.
With just three overseas players in the starting MI playing 11, they also have option to bring in 18-year old Afghan off-spinner Allah Ghazanfar as the impact player. The likes of Ryan Rickelton and Karn Sharma can be the other impact player options.
