IPL 2025: Shubman Gill queried about "wedding bells" at KKR vs GT toss
Changes in team combination, likely decisions, and thoughts on the conditions are among the standard questions captains usually face at the toss. Ajinkya Rahane, who won the toss and opted to field first in the KKR vs GT IPL 2025 match, was asked similar questions. However, when it was time to speak with Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, Danny Morrison swiftly changed the tone. Gill was set to bat first at Eden Gardens as Kolkata Knight Riders took the field. But Morrison caught the Gujarat skipper off guard with an unexpected, out-of-the-box question that left the young captain blushing. Interestingly, Morrison skipped the usual query about team changes and instead commented on how “good” the batter looked.
"Getting married," Danny Morrison asks Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill was caught off guard during the toss when commentator Danny Morrison surprised him with a cheeky question about marriage. At just 25, Gill is already seen as a future cornerstone of Indian cricket. With his steady performances and growing fanbase, the young opener has also shown leadership promise, which earned him the vice-captaincy role in India’s ODI setup under Rohit Sharma. Leading Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, Gill has carried himself with remarkable poise.
But even his cool demeanour cracked for a moment as Morrison’s sudden marriage query brought a rare blush to his face during the toss against his former franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders. As Gill's turn to talk came after Rahane informed of his decision at the toss, Morrison noted how Gill was looking good. Taking his point to another level, the seasoned commentator wondered if wedding is on cards for the young captain.
You're looking lovely, no wedding bells in the future. What's happening? You getting married?"
Shubman visibly blushed before replying, "No, nothing of that sort."

Back to the action, it was KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane who called it right at the toss and chose to bowl first at Eden Gardens in the KKR vs GT fixture. The Knight Riders made a couple of changes to their lineup, bringing in Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Moeen Ali in place of Quinton de Kock and Anrich Nortje. Gujarat Titans, the table toppers, also shuffled their deck by including Washington Sundar in the playing XI. Both Ishant Sharma and Arshad Khan missed out from the starting XI, but one of them could be brought in later as the impact player during the bowling innings.
