Gujarat Titans, former IPL champions, found themselves in a fix ever since Hardik Pandya transitioned back to Mumbai Indians, leading to Shubman Gill’s promotion as premature captain. His first stint as captain was underwhelming with GT finishing 8th on the points table. Regardless, the IPL 2025 Mega Auction served as an opportunity for GT management to restart with a clean slate. They bought Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, and Mohammed Siraj from the marquee list while also tying loose ends to form a balanced squad.

That being said, GT filled all the 25 slots available to shape a well-balanced roster. With Shubman Gill slated to lead, Buttler and Rashid Khan are expected to play a key role. Before the IPL 2025 season approaches, let’s formulate GT’s strongest playing XI, considering all 25 players are available to play.

IPL 2025: Strongest Gujarat Titans playing 11

  1. Shubman Gill (opener/captain)

Skipper Shubman Gill will lead GT not only as an opener but also as captain. With 45 games under his belt, Gill is the leading scorer for GT. Hence, the franchise retained him for INR 16.50 crore. Gill has been in decent form this year, with injuries shunting his growth to an extent. The 25-year-old has mostly stayed away from the shorter format to prioritise red-ball cricket. But overall, Gill is expected to lead from the front next year.

2. Jos Buttler (opener/wk)

GT won a tight bidding battle to win Jos Buttler for INR 15.75 crore. Buttler scored four centuries in IPL 2024 for Rajasthan Royals and is one of the most explosive openers in T20I format. He accumulated 3582 runs in 107 IPL games, and most importantly, Jos’ ability to maximise the powerplay will be something GT will bank upon in the IPL 2025 season.

3. Sai Sudharsan (no.3)

Promising top order batter from Tamil Nadu, Sai Sudharsan was amongst a notable retainee by GT. He will earn INR 8.50 crore in IPL 2025 and will play a key role of an anchor at no.3. Since his debut in IPL 2022, Sudharsan has scored 1034 runs, including a ton in as many as 25 games. In 2024, he accumulated 527 runs which is also his career best season in the IPL.

4. Glenn Phillips (no.4)

Another explosive batter Glenn Phillips will come in at no.4. His IPL stint is restricted to just 8 games. But Phillips is an excellent middle-order batter who can switch gears at the right time and also chip in with a few overs. Besides, Phillips is an extremely efficient fielder which is a plus for GT.

5. Shahrukh Khan (no.5)

Shahrukh Khan, a proven finisher, will come in as no.5 batter for GT. He was retained for INR 4 crore as an uncapped player and has played 40 IPL games thus far. Shahrukh has amassed 553 runs across his multiple stints with PBKS and GT. Moreover, given his flair to hit enormous sixes encouraged GT to retain him as finisher.

6. Rahul Tewatia (no.6)

Rahul Tewatia is another proven finisher who rose to fame with his 5 sixes in an over against PBKS. Having played 93 games in the IPL already, Tewatia has amassed 1013 runs and also picked 32 wickets. He is an excellent finishing option with proven experience to deliver in tight chases. Hence, for no.6, Tewatia is GT’s best possible pick.

7. Washington Sundar (no.7)

GT bagged experienced all-rounder Washington Sundar for a steal price of INR 3.20 crore. He initially rose to fame with his stint with RCB but played a large part of his career with SRH. Sundar has around 378 runs and 37 wickets in over 60 IPL games, and GT will bank on his all-round impact to gain an edge over competitors.

8. Rashid Khan (no.8)

Rashid Khan, one of the most deceptive spin bowlers across the globe, was retained for a whopping INR 18 crores. He is the leading wicket-taker for GT and will continue to take charge of the bowling attack. Rashid is no longer a deceptive leg spinner but also a finisher who can win matches in crucial chases. Hence, Rashid Khan will be GT’s trump card going forward.

9. Kagiso Rabada (no.9)

GT signed South African speedster Kagiso Rabada for INR 10.75 crore and he will replace Mohammad Shami to lead the pace attack. Rabada has thus far featured in 80 IPL games and picked up 117 wickets. After successful stints with PBKS and DC, Rabada will sparkle his brilliance in GT uniform for IPL 2025 edition.

10. Mohammed Siraj (no.10)

Seasoned Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has parted ways with RCB and will join GT in IPL 2025 for INR 12.75 deal. Siraj has been inconsistent in IPL but has matured a lot as a bowler over the years. Since debut in 2017, he has taken 93 wickets in 93 IPL matches. While the transitions could be difficult at first, Ashish Nehra can help him settle and eventually turn Siraj into a match-winner.

11. Prasidh Krishna (no.11)

Prasidh Krishna is yet another smart pick by GT management. Krishna is highly impactful with the new ball. While he missed the IPL 2024 season with an injury, the pacer has 49 wickets in 51 IPL games. He was also RR’s leading wicket-taker at some stage before injury derailed his career. Regardless, with GT, Prasidh Krishna can redeem himself.
