Despite overlapping with the exciting and thrilling Australia vs India Border Gavaskar Trophy 1st Test match, the Indian Premier League (IPL auction 2025) turned out to be really successful to a great extent. Interestingly, the two-day IPL 2025 mega auction was a sensational record-breaking spectacle where a massive total of INR 639.15 crore were spent in the proceedings. Rishabh Pant IPL 2025 price was the biggest highlight of the auction as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bought the swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman at a mammoth amount of INR 27 Crore while Shreyas Iyer IPL 2025 salary worth INR 26.75 also broke off the records after the Punjab Kings secured the services of the former IPL 2024-title winning skipper.

IPL auction 2025 highlights

Incidentally, as many as 21 players got themselves a bid of INR 10 crore or more at the IPL 2025 auction as compared to only 11 during the previous IPL mega auction in 2022. The newly modified Right To Match (RTM) rule definitely brought some significant changes to the strategies and dynamics at the auction this year. According to this rule, the highest bidder for a certain cricketer had the option to increase their bid to an amount of their choice and the previous franchise had to match it, in order to retain that player through the RTM card. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh and Naman Dhir were some of the major beneficiaries of this provision.

While talking about rest of the IPL auction and its highlights, uncapped fast bowler Rasikh Salam Dar IPL 2025 price started from his base price of INR 30 Lakh and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) eventually took him home at an amount worth INR 6 crore. On the other hand, as many as 14 South African cricketers were bought by a total of 8 different teams in the IPL 2025 mega auction which stood out to be the maximum number while talking about the overseas players as compared to 13 Aussie cricketers being sold at the event.

The other major highlight from the IPL mega auction 2025 was Venkatesh Iyer IPL 2025 price going as high to an astonishing amount worth INR 23.75 crore. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) shelled out this massive money to secure the services of the big-hitting all-rounder. During KKR's exceptional title-winning IPL 2024 campaign, Iyer smashed a brilliant total of 370 runs at an impressive strike-rate of close to 160. Eventually, all of the 10 IPL franchises were satisfied with their respective buys and managed to fill their required spots at the two-day IPL auction 2025.

“For us, it was about trying to keep our core. We’ve retained six players and brought back 2-3 others from last year. That was always the plan," stated KKR CEO Venkyu Mysore.
