The Gujarat Titans (GT), the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) champions and 2023 runners-up, are gearing up to secure their core players ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline i.e. 31 October, 2024. Among the notable names, captain Shubman Gill is set to be retained, ensuring that one of Indian cricket’s brightest stars remains at the helm. Additionally, star all-rounder Rashid Khan from Afghanistan is also expected to continue his journey with the Titans, further bolstering the team’s competitive edge. In another positive note for the franchise, the talented Sai Sudharsan is also on track for retention, showcasing the team's commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. However, in a concerning IPL update for GT fans, star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is likely to be left out of the retention list due to ongoing injury concerns. Shami’s absence would undoubtedly be felt, as his experience and skill are invaluable to the team.

IPL Update: Gujarat Titans set to retain Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan for IPL 2025?

Moreover, the latest IPL update is that the Gujarat Titans are also looking to retain some uncapped players who have shown promise, including youngsters like Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia. As the franchise prepares for the upcoming season, these retention decisions will be crucial in shaping their strategy and maintaining their competitive spirit in the ever-evolving landscape of the IPL. The anticipation builds as fans await the official announcements regarding the team’s future roster.

"Shubman, Rashid, and Sai will be retained by the franchise," said an IPL source as per India Today.

Shubman Gill is increasingly seen as the next big star and a potential future leader for Team India. Born in Fazilka, he showcased his leadership skills by captaining the Gujarat Titans during the IPL 2024 season. Unfortunately, the former champions struggled, finishing eighth in the competitive 10-team league. In contrast, during their debut season, the Titans made history by clinching the IPL title, a feat achieved under the captaincy of all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Amid ongoing rumors linking star Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan to the Mumbai Indians, sources indicate that Khan is likely to remain with the Titans for the foreseeable future. Known for his impressive wicket-taking ability, Khan claimed 19 wickets during the IPL 2022 season, followed by an even better performance in 2023, where he took 27 wickets. However, the 2024 season proved challenging for the talismanic spinner; despite participating in 12 matches, he managed only 10 wickets at an average of 36.70, a marked decline from his previous seasons. As the Gujarat Titans prepare for the IPL 2025 retention deadline, the focus will be on building a team capable of returning to form. With key players like Gill and Khan likely to remain, fans are hopeful that the franchise can bounce back and reclaim their status as title contenders in the next season.

The much-anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction is generating excitement, especially with the possibility of being held outside India. Currently, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is emerging as a leading contender for the venue, with the bidding war set to commence in late November. This year, the overall auction budget has been significantly increased to INR 120 crore, marking a rise of INR 20 crore from the previous year's budget for IPL teams.

In terms of salary caps, adjustments will be made based on the total purse available during the auction. Additionally, players can expect performance-based increments to be paid separately, enhancing the financial stakes involved. Match fees have also been established, set at a minimum of INR 7.5 lakh per game, ensuring that players are compensated fairly for their on-field contributions.

As part of the new IPL retention regulations, teams will now be allowed to retain a maximum of six players. This includes the reintroduction of the Right to Match (RTM) card, which had been absent in the last auction. These changes are designed to create a more competitive landscape and ensure that teams can strategically retain key players while also considering new talents in the auction. With these updates, the IPL 2025 auction promises to be an exciting and dynamic event for franchises and fans alike.
