Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are ready to host arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a blockbuster encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 28 March, 2025. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK team started off their IPL 2025 campaign on an impressive note as they registered a superlative 4-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in the El Clasico battle at the very same venue. Therefore, it will be really important for the Chennai Super Kings to continue this winning momentum and they would also want to avenge the heartening defeat suffered against RCB in IPL 2024 as well. 

Matheesha Pathirana to play CSK vs RCB IPL 2025 match?

Surprisingly, Sri Lanka's premier speedster Matheesha Pathirana did not played the opening match for the Chennai Super Kings against the Mumbai Indians due to an injury issue. Ahead of the important game against Royal Challengers Bangalore starting on Friday, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that the Lankan fast bowler is currently recovering well. This also means that Pathirana will be unavailable for selection in the upcoming CSK vs RCB IPL 2025 match. 

During his entire cricketing career so far, Matheeshaa Pathirana has struggled with a lot of injury issues. He also missed majority of the Indian Premier League 2024 season due to a hamstring injury. However, he played as many as 6 matches in the previous edition of the T20 competition, having picked up a total of 13 wickets at a fine economy of 7.68. The Chennai Super Kings team management showed a lot of faith on the Sri Lankan cricketer having retained him at a mammoth price of INR 13 Crore. Therefore, Chennai Super Kings are expected to go ahead with an unchanged combination in the match against RCB.
