The Mumbai Indians (MI) are all charged up for their second home match in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season scheduled against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 7 April, 2025. After a poor start to their IPL 2025 campaign where they suffered two back-to-back losses against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, five-time champions Mumbai Indians finally etched a brilliant victory against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. But then they again lost to Lucknow Super Giants during their previous away fixture. Thus, it will be vital for the Hardik Pandya-led MI to return back to winning ways.

Rohit Sharma to play MI vs RCB IPL 2025 match?

The Mumbai Indians sustained a big setback as their senior opening batter Rohit Sharma was not available for selection during their previous IPL 2025 match against the Lucknow Super Giants. Former MI captain was reportedly hit on the knee during the practice sessions and thus, he was ruled out from the last game. Interestingly, Rohit was one of the first batters to attend the nets ahead of the Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2025 match scheduled to begin on Monday. However, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene revealed that the senior cricketer was feeling good and they will take a call on his availability in the MI playing XI after assessing in the fitness.

"Ro [Rohit] looks good, he's going to bat today as well. Rohit had an unfortunate impact on his leg while batting so he felt uncomfortable. We were travelling yesterday. He'll have a hit today and then we will do an assessment on that," stated Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene during a recent interview.

Rohit Sharma managed to score a total of 417 runs from as many as 14 matches at a brilliant strike-rate of 150 during IPL 2024. On the other hand, the experienced Indian opener went on to smash an impressive tally of 257 runs in 8 games at an exceptional strike-rate of over 156 during the winning T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. The MI team management retained the most successful IPL captain at a price of INR 16.30 Crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

During the last game against Lucknow Super Giants, the duo of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks opened the batting for the Mumbai Indians. Rohit is expected to straightaway walk back into the MI playing XI if termed fit for the Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match. Another massive boost for the five-time champions is the return of premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
