The Rajasthan Royals (RR) are all set to host the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the sixth game of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) on 26 March, 2025 scheduled to be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. IPL 2008 champions, Rajasthan Royals, will be feeling very much low on confidence as they are coming into this game after having conceded a poor 44-run defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their opening game of the T20 competition. Therefore, RR will be eyeing to make a strong comeback and register their first win of IPL 2025. 

Wanindu Hasaranga to play today's RR vs KKR IPL 2025 match?

It was really surprising when Sri Lanka's premier leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was not part of the Rajasthan Royals playing XI during their IPL 2025 season opener against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, the Rajasthan Royals team management bought the leggie at a price of INR 5.25 Crore. Incidentally, he missed the entire IPL 2024 season due to chronic heel pain in his left foot. While talking about Wanindu Hasaranga stats in IPL history, the Lankan leg-spinner has picked up as many as 35 wickets from 26 games at an economy of 8.13. 

On the other hand, the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana and Fazalhaq Farooqi were the four overseas players for the Rajasthan Royals against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Theekshana conceded a total of 52 runs in his four overs and picked up two wickets while Farooqi went wicketless and conceded as many as 49 runs in his three overs. Therefore, the RR team management can explore the option of playing Hasaranga for someone like Farooqi. Also, there is still no clear update available as to why Wanindu Hasaranga missed the opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad and thus, it could be a pure tactical decision.
