Ishan Kishan, who opted out of the Indian team to prioritize his mental health, has made an incredible return in India’s domestic season, scoring a hundred in the match against India B. Kishan, who missed the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the Buchi Babu Tournament, was added back in the second round for the India C team after some players were released due to selection for the Bangladesh tour.
In the 4th match of the Duleep Trophy between India B and India C, the star player was included in the playing XI. He came to bat when India C faced two back-to-back blows at 97 runs, following the dismissals of Gaikwad and Sudarshan, who scored 46 and 40 runs, respectively. Kishan formed a crucial partnership of 189 runs for the 3rd wicket with Rajat Patidar, taking the team to a total of 286 before being dismissed for 111. During his knock, the left-handed batter smashed 14 boundaries and 3 sixes around the ground.
After Kishan’s dismissal, Baba Aparajith kept the scoreboard ticking with a knock of 78 runs against a strong India B bowling lineup. Mukesh Kumar emerged as the leading wicket-taker for India C, claiming 3 wickets, while Navdeep Saini and Rahul Chahar picked up one wicket each.
Ishan Kishan's 2024 IPL Performance
The Ranchi-born cricketer struggled in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians, scoring just 320 runs in 14 games at an average of 22, with only one fifty to his name. His underwhelming performance was one of the reasons for Mumbai's early exit from the tournament.
His below-par IPL performance also led to his exclusion from India's tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, with young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad in top form. However, after this knock in the domestic season, the BCCI and Indian team management might reconsider Ishan Kishan for upcoming tours.
