Australian star opener David Warner admitted that Delhi Capitals' poor performance in the first half of the IPL 2024 season led them to the bottom half of the points table. With six matches left in the season for Delhi, the Australian wants the side to play good cricket responsibly and aim to win almost every match of their remaining campaign. Delhi is currently languishing in 8th position with three wins in eight matches. The left-handed opener spoke about the importance of improvement in batting and bowling to keep the IPL 2024 playoff hopes alive. David Warner, however, hasn't performed that well with the bat, scoring only 167 runs this season at a strike-rate of 135.77. Delhi Capitals will be up against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 24.

David Warner hopeful of Delhi Capitals' comeback in IPL 2024

During the media day on Monday, Delhi Capitals' opener David Warner spoke at length about the team's performance so far in the IPL 2024 season. Having won three out of eight matches so far, the Delhi Capitals will look to turn things around in their remaining matches in the IPL 2024 season. The 2023 World Cup winner spoke about the importance of improvement in batting and bowling to keep the IPL 2024 playoff hopes alive. David Warner hasn't performed that well with the bat, scoring only 167 runs this season at a strike-rate of 135.77.

"We're not where we want to be for the team's sake. We'd like to win a few more games. But we've got to win the next remainder to obviously compete in the finals. So for us, it's about doing as best as we can. Hopefully, we can play each game like we did against Gujarat," David Warner said.

Warner further highlighted that Delhi Capitals has a dangerous bowling attack. Delhi Capitals will take on Gujarat Titans in their next match of IPL 2024 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday. The much-anticipated game will be played at Delhi's home ground, which is a flat track with no assistance for the fast bowlers. In contrast, Spinners can get help from the pitch as it will be played on the same pitch where the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters humiliated the Delhi Capitals bowlers by scoring 266 runs in 20 overs.

"We've got a little bit of improving to do, both with bat and the ball. If we can minimise the totals, it would be great. And then if we bat first, try and put a big total on the board and defend it. Cannot fault the way the guys are training and preparing. It's just sometimes in the games that the execution isn't there. And we know when we take wickets up front and early, we're a very dangerous bowling attack," Warner concluded.

David Warner also predicted that the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, set to be co-hosted by the United States of America and West Indies, will not witness the massive scores posted on the flat pitches of the IPL 2024 season. Currently representing Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL, David Warner acknowledged the team's precarious position. With only three wins out of eight matches, Delhi Capitals have to win at least five out of six games with a better net run rate.
