Sri Lanka's star batter Kamindu Mendis is announced as the Player of the Month award for March after beating New Zealand's bowler Matt Henry and Ireland's nation Mark Adair for the position. The 25-year-old right-hand batter has represented 20 games for the Sri Lankan team, where he has scored more than 730 runs for the Sri Lankan team in all three formats, which also includes 2 hundred in Test Cricket with an average of 107 in just 3 games. You might not be aware, but he is the 3rd Sri Lankan batter Prabath Jayasuriya and Wanindu Hasaranga to win the coveted Player of the Month award.
A Month To Remember For Mendis
The Sri Lankan all-rounder started the month with 68 runs in the 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh, out of which 37 came in the second T20I, and continued his dominance in the Test series against the same opposition.
In the Test game against Bangladesh, Mendis continued to dominate Bangladesh with his incredible form and scored Hundreds in both innings of the first Test match. In the process, he became the first player batting at number seven or lower to score twin centuries in the same Test.
"I am extremely happy to be named the ICC Men's Player of the Month, which I consider an inspiration for my international career," Mendis expressed. "A recognition such as this motivates and makes us as players work more and more to deliver in the middle for the team, country, and fans."
It was largely due to the performance of Mendis that Sri Lanka managed to thrash Bangladesh in their own backyard.
The Sri Lankan team are gearing up for the T20I World Cup, which will start after the finish of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL ) on 1st June 2024 in the West Indies and United States of America. With this form, we can see Kamindu Mendis can be seen playing a great role for the Lankan Lions in the upcoming ICC event.
