Reports suggest that KL Rahul's three-year stint with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has come to an end, with the franchise set to appoint a new leader for IPL 2025. Since its inception in 2022, LSG has seen Rahul at the helm, guiding the team to the playoffs in both of its initial seasons. However, the 2024 season was disappointing, culminating in a seventh-place finish on the points table. Tensions appeared to rise between franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka and Rahul following a heated discussion after a loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. In August, Rahul traveled to Kolkata to meet with Goenka, and it seemed the two had reconciled their differences. However, a recent report from the Times of India indicates that, despite LSG offering Rahul a lucrative retention deal, the wicketkeeper-batter has decided to part ways with the franchise.

This development marks a significant shift for both Rahul and LSG, as the team will now look to build under new leadership. Rahul's departure could open doors for him to explore other opportunities in the IPL, while LSG will aim to regroup and strategize for a more successful campaign in the upcoming season. The franchise's next move will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike, as they seek to redefine their path.

"LSG were ready to offer top retention bracket to Rahul, but Rahul eventually decided to move on due to personal and professional reasons," a source told TOI.

KL Rahul is poised to be one of the most sought-after players in the IPL 2025 mega auction, thanks to his extensive experience leading teams like Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. Additionally, he has also captained India in a stand-in role, showcasing his leadership capabilities on various fronts. The 32-year-old has played 132 IPL matches, accumulating an impressive 4,683 runs at an average of 45.47 and a strike rate of 134.61. His record includes 37 half-centuries and four centuries, with a highest score of 132 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2020. While some have scrutinized his strike rates over the seasons, teams with a mix of aggressive power-hitters in their line-up could greatly benefit from Rahul's technical solidity, especially in challenging batting conditions.

As the IPL 2025 auction approaches, franchises will likely recognize the value he brings, not just in runs but also in experience and strategic play. Rahul’s ability to anchor an innings while adapting to the demands of the game makes him an appealing choice for many teams looking to enhance their squad depth and leadership.

"At the moment, there are four franchises who have expressed their interest in him - Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, and the Chennai Super Kings. Expect all four to go hard for him in the auction," a source said.
