Kolkata Knight Riders star batter Sunil Narine got emotional while talking about his father on KKR’s Night dugout episode 2 with the captain Shreyas Iyer. Nitish Rana is one of the senior players from the Kolkata-based franchise, where last season, he was leading the star-studded team in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who suffered an injury. However, he failed to take his team to the playoffs and got eliminated in the group stage only by winning 6 games out of 14 matches, having 12 points at the 7th position.
On talking at KKR's Night dugout show in episode 2 with Shreyas Iyer, the voice captain of the Shahrukh Khan franchise was seen getting emotional while talking about his father, who used to drive a Maruti 800 Automatic car earlier as the financial conditions were not good at that time and it was the only Car which his family could afford at that time. However, Rana recently bought a Mercedes car as a gift to his father after he praised it while travelling.
“There was a time when my Dad had a Maruti 800 and he’s handicapped, so we could only afford that automatic car because it was the cheapest. Once while travelling in that, we saw a Mercedes and I really liked it, however my dad told me to look away because it was very costly," Nitish Rana said on KKR's Knights Dugout. "There and then I decided whenever I have enough money, the first car I would buy would be a Mercedes and when I bought it for my dad, it was a very emotional moment for me and my Dad," he added.
Nitish Rana has played 1 ODI and 2 T20I matches for Men in Blue. However, currently, he has not been part of KKR's playing 11 due to a finger injury that he faced after the first game. Rana has been retained by Knight Riders franchise in 2024 at a whopping price of 8 Crore. Talking about the pressure and team management support Delhi-born boy said,
“There was some pressure because I was captaining for the first time. However, I received unmatchable support from the team management as well as the people of Kolkata and I really needed it.
“I’ve been playing here for seven years now and I’ve been showered with lots of love. The amount of love I’ve received from the fans as a KKR player has been incredible,"
Nitish Ran's team are going through a terrific season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) after winning 5 games out of 7 matches and having 10 points on the board. Kolkata Knight Riders are in the 2nd position on the table.
