MI vs KKR: Mumbai curb KKR in an all-round domination to pick first IPL 2025 win
Mumbai Indians finally arrived home for their third fixture in the 18th edition of the IPL. With their homecoming, their form returned on par with their reputation as five-time champions. There were no moments in the MI vs KKR IPL 2025 clash where the defending champions looked in contention for a win. Right from the first over in the opening innings to the closing sixer by Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians dominated Kolkata Knight Riders as they went all guns blazing at home, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The 8-wicket victory seems to have concluded the initial jitters for the team, infamous for kicking off the season with defeats. As Mumbai Indians pick up their first win of the season, KKR have now lost two of their three matches played so far in their title-defending campaign.
Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar dismantle KKR in the powerplay, Ashwani Kumar marks a dream debut
The scene that every Mumbai Indians fan had been waiting for in IPL 2025 finally arrived as Trent Boult picked a wicket in the opening over. The speedster cleaned up Sunil Narine’s stumps, sending the KKR opener back for a two-ball duck. Banking on the tone set by Boult, Deepak Chahar exploited the conditions to dismiss the other opener, Quinton de Kock, in the next over. The focus then shifted to Ashwani Kumar, who marked a dream debut in the MI vs KKR clash. On the very first ball of his spell, the 23-year-old left-arm seamer dismissed KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane. The MI speedsters brought the match home in the powerplay itself, reducing KKR to 41 for 4.

Ashwani Kumar went on to register a four-fer in his debut match as none of the KKR batters managed to prevent the collapse. KKR sunk to 88 for 8 as Ashwani cleared Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Manish Pandey, registering an impressive spell of 3-0-24-4 on his debut. Kolkata Knight Riders never staged a comeback in the opening innings as Mumbai Indians bundled the defending champions out for a meager 116 at Wankhede.
Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav wrap the chase in the 13th over of the MI vs KKR IPL 2025 clash
Buoyed by their first-innings performance, MI started aggressively in the chase. Andre Russell managed to claim a wicket in the powerplay as Rohit Sharma, playing as an impact player, departed after hitting a six. However, Rohit's opening partner, Ryan Rickelton, was in no mood to give KKR an edge, thrashing all the KKR bowlers uniformly. With five sixes and four fours in his knock, Rickelton wrapped up the chase with an unbeaten 62 off 41. The concluding fireworks came off the bat of MI's beloved Surya Dada, who finished with a six at a knock of 27 off just nine balls. The MI vs KKR game thus brought the five-time champions to the fore.
