South African Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out from the ongoing Major League Cricket competition in the USA after suffering a low-grade side strain on his left side while playing for the Texas Super Kings earlier this month. After that, he went through further assessments before the South African medical team declared him unfit for the tour against West Indies.
The 23-year-old was going through a great season for the last 1 year, first in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, where he picked 20, which was the most wickets from the Proteas team in the last year's ICC event, then continuing it in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League from Mumbai Indians franchise with 13 wickets in 10 games.
After his brilliant performance for the Proteas team, he was picked up in the squad of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup along with ace bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. He played a crucial role in taking the Proteas team to the first final of the ICC event in 2024. When he was continuing with his brilliant form in the ongoing Major Cricket League from Texas Super Kings by being the 2nd highest wicket-taker for the team, he suffered an injury which not only made him out from the 2nd season of the tournament but also the upcoming Test series against West Indies.
Uncapped fast bowler Migael Pretorius has been named as Coetzee's replacement. The 29-year-old had been earlier called up to the test side in 2020 against Sri Lanka but did not get a chance to play. Pretorius has been named in the series with form on his side. He has picked up 23 wickets so for in eight games in the ongoing County Championship Division in England.
The first test is to be played at the Port of Spain in Trinidad from August 07 while the second test will be at Guyana from August 15.
