Mitchell Marsh is Australia's T20I captain and batting all-rounder, who has the ability to bowl fast and bat in the middle order known for hard-hitting. The Australian all-rounder has got the cricket in his blood as he is the brother of Shaun Marsh and son of Australia's former opener, Geoff Marsh. The Right-handed batsman was born on October 20, 1991, in Perth, Western Australia. Apart from his father and brother, his sister Melissa Marsh, was a professional basketball player and he is cousin to retired AFL player, Brad Sheppard.

Marsh has been married to Greta Mack in the year 2023.

Marsh's Domestic Career

Marsh made his debut at the age of just 17 years in Feb 2009  in a Ford Ranger Cup game at Bunbury. With this, he became the youngest-ever player in an Australian domestic one-day game and Western Australia's youngest debutant for 70 years. Later, in April 2009, he played for Australia's under-19 team against India, which made him the team captain of the Austalia  Under-19 Cricket World Cup, 2010. Under his leadership, Australia won the tournament, which shows his leadership ability at a young age. Marsh had a successful tournament, where he scored 201 runs, including a match-winning 97 in the semi-final against Sri Lanka.

Mitchell Marsh's prowess came into the limelight when he scored 211 runs batting seventh in Australia's first innings, his first double-century. He and Sam Whiteman, who scored 174 runs, put on 371 runs for the seventh wicket, an Australian record and, at the time, the second-highest seventh-wicket partnership in first-class cricket.

International Career

Mitchell Marsh was named in Australia's T20I Squad in September 2011, against the South African series. However, he didn't get a chance to play. Later, he was also been picked up in the One Day International (ODI), after Breet Lee was ruled out due to injury.  In the second match of the T20I match of series, the all-rounder impressed everyone in his debut game by scoring 36 runs including four sixes, three of which were hit in the final over of the Australian innings.

After performing well in the Zimbabwe and South Africa series in 2014, where he scored 89 runs in the first match of the Tri-Series, Marsh made his Test match debut for Australia against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates on 22 October 2014. Later, next year Marsh took 5 wickets against England, during the 2015 Cricket World Cup and scored his maiden ODI century against India in 2016 at the SCG. However, despite his great form, he was dropped from the Australian Test side after the first Test of the 2016–17 series against South Africa.

Mitchell Marsh has represented the Australian team since 2011 in all three formats, where he has scored 3-3 hundreds in Test and One Day International, after playing more than 125 games for the Men in Yellow.

Controversies and injuries

Mitchell Marsh has been involved in different controversies from time to time due to his anger issues he has faced consequences in his international cricket whether it's the fone of 20 percent of his match fee and given one demerit point for using offensive language during the second Test between Australia and South Africa, after being dismissed by Kagiso Rabada or broking his bowling hand after punching a wall, following his dismissal, during a Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania. As a result, he was forced to miss the start of Australia's Test summer.

Despite this, the Australian captain has always made a strong comeback to the team, as in 2021 Australi tour of West Indies, he scored back-to-back fifties. Later, he was announced as the captain of the Australian team in 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and he fulfilled the responsibilities greatly. On 14 November, 2021, Marsh helped Australia win the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, scoring 77 runs in the final and earning Player of the Match award.

Marsh spent a lot of time on the bench, mostly due to injury rather than a lack of form. He found himself in and out of the Test setup and never really cemented his spot in the side. His maiden and career-best Test hundred came in 2017 in an Ashes game against Australia in Perth.

Currently, the Australian all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh is leading the Kangaroos in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, where he made them qualify in the Super 8 stage of the tournament after winning in 4-back-to-back games of the group stage.
