Left-arm speedster Mitchell Starc emerged as a crucial figure for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during their triumphant campaign in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Now, the left-arm pacer sets his sights on aiding Australia in securing their second T20 World Cup title. The IPL 2024 season witnessed staggering scores being amassed and chased down by teams, with bowlers grappling against an array of hard-hitting batters on largely unassisting surfaces. Despite this trend, Starc expressed his belief that such colossal totals won't be as prevalent in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The prestigious ICC event is set to be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA.

Starc attributed this anticipated shift to the absence of the Impact Player rule, which provided teams with additional firepower in their batting line-ups during the IPL. Without this advantage, teams may find it more challenging to replicate the astronomical scores witnessed in the IPL. The left-arm seamer's assessment suggests a potential recalibration of strategies and expectations as teams gear up for the global tournament.

With Starc's insights and experience, Australia will aim to capitalize on this perceived shift in dynamics, leveraging their strengths to navigate the tournament's challenges. As anticipation builds for the T20 World Cup, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await to see how teams adapt to the unique conditions and regulations, setting the stage for an exhilarating competition on the international stage.

"There is an Impact Player Rule here and not in the T20 World Cup. You are going to have to rely more on your all-rounders. You cannot put your batting all-rounder at number 8, like you do in the IPL. I don't think that you will see these kinds of high scores in the T20 World Cup, purely because there will be one less batter," said Australia's Mitchell Starc during a recent interview.

Starc, drawing from his experience, noted that the pitches in the West Indies and the USA are unlikely to favor batting to the same extent as those in India. He concurred that bowlers would assume a pivotal role, particularly as the tournament progresses and the pitches gradually lose pace. Acknowledging the contrasting nature of pitches across different host countries, Starc's observation underscores the potential for a shift in the balance between bat and ball in the T20 World Cup.

As the tournament unfolds, teams are likely to adapt their strategies to suit the evolving conditions, placing increased emphasis on the skills of their bowlers to effectively counteract the challenges posed by slower tracks. Starc's assessment hints at the need for teams to maintain flexibility and depth in their bowling arsenals, recognizing the potential impact of pitch conditions on match outcomes throughout the tournament.

"Batters have been more brave in the powerplay. They are striking the ball better as we have seen in the IPL. Particularly the wickets have been good. They will not be the same in West Indies, it will turn and they will be more tired. In the back end of the tournament, it may spin more and stay low and slow. Hopefully the bowlers play a bit more role in the World Cup than they have played in the IPL," Starc added.
