Most Runs in IPL 2024. Check complete list

Top 5 batters who have scored the most runs in IPL 2024

The Indian Premier League 2024 season has reached the halfway stage, and the biggest talking point this year has been the dominance of the bat over the ball, with batting-friendly pitches, record-breaking totals, shocking strike rates, and sixes galore being the norm of the season. While Sunrisers Hyderabad has revolutionized their batting at the top of the order and the Kolkata Knight Riders have followed them closely, others like the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings have been poor with the ball and are languishing at the bottom of the table. While some of the experienced batters have struggled in the season so far, here are the top 5 batters who have scored the most runs in IPL 2024.

Most Runs in IPL 2024: Virat Kohli leads the Orange Cap race

Indian veteran Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer of IPL 2024 with 379 runs from eight games for Royal Challengers Bengaluru so far. Dashing Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head is in second place, on 324 from six games, after his destructive 89 off 32 balls against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Here's the list of the top 5 batters who have scored the most runs in IPL 2024.

Player Team Matches Runs Average Strike Rate HS
Virat Kohli RCB 8 379 63.16 150.39 113*
Travis Head SRH 6 324 54.00 216.00 102
Riyan Parag RR 7 318 63.60 161.42 84*
Shubman Gill GT 8 298 42.57 146.79 89*
Rohit Sharma MI 7 297 49.50 164.08 105*

While some of the experienced players have failed miserably in the IPL 2024 season, the emergence of young Indian batters like Riyan Parag and Shubman Gill is one of the highlights of the tournament. With Rajasthan Royals taking on the Mumbai Indians in today's ipl match, the race for the Orange cap is going to be interesting, with Young Riyan Parag taking on the Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the batting-friendly Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

1. Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)

Star India batter Virat Kohli has been in sublime form this IPL season. Kohli has smashed 379 runs at a strike rate of 150.39 and an average of 63.17. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter has scored two half-centuries and an unbeaten century this IPL season and would be looking to break his own record for most runs in an IPL season. Virat Kohli has been one of the pillars of Indian cricket. He has scored the most runs in IPL history, smashing 7642 runs at a strike rate of 130.90 and an average of 38.02. There is no doubt that the 35-year-old will be donning the Orange Cap at the end of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.

2. Travis Head (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Australian opener Travis Head is continuing his rich form in limited-overs cricket. The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup winner is definitely in no mood to control his run-scoring hunger for the new-look Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have posted the highest score in IPL history (287/3). In SRH's last IPL match against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Travis Head scored 89 runs off 32 balls, smashing 11 fours and 6 sixes. Thanks to SRH's new attacking approach in the IPL 2024 season, the left-handed Aussie is on the verge of scoring the most runs in IPL 2024. Head has moved up to second on the IPL Orange Cap list with 324 runs at an impressive strike rate of 216 and an average of 54.

3. Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals)

Young sensation Riyan Parag has finally come of age and is all set to have a breakout IPL season this year. RR's latest superstar has scored 318 runs in 6 matches so far at an average of 63.60 and a strike rate of 161.42. Riyan Parag is also the highest run-getter for the Rajasthan Royals, striking at 161.4 in the tournament. Table-toppers Rajasthan Royals have won six of their seven games in the IPL 2024 season, with Riyan Parag (318 at 161.42) contributing the bulk of the runs in that shaky middle-order. Up against a formidable Mumbai side in todays IPL match, Rajasthan will need their batters, especially Riyan Parag to score runs during the middle overs if they are to maintain their winning momentum. Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson would be mindful of last season, where they managed only two victories in the second half of the tournament.

4. Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans)

Despite not fully performing up to his reputation this IPL season, the 2023 Orange Cap winner Shubman Gill is at number four among those who have scored the most runs in IPL 2024. Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has scored 298 runs in eight innings with an average of 42.57. The Prince of Indian cricket has scored runs at a strike rate of 146.79, while his best so far is an unbeaten 89 in the IPL match against Punjab Kings. Leading Gujarat Titans to an impressive win over Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on Sunday, Shubman Gill played a gritty knock of 35 off 29 balls while chasing a tricky total of 143. Gill has surpassed Indian captain Rohit Sharma's run tally in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap list. With 890 runs in 17 games during IPL 2023 season, Gill is number two on the list with the most runs in IPL during a single season.

5. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been in good form in the IPL 2024 season. The Hitman of Indian cricket is at number five among those who have scored the most runs in IPL 2024. In 7 matches, the 36-year-old has smashed 297 runs at a strike rate of 164.08 and an average of 49.50. Relieved from his captaincy duties for Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma has been free-flowing, showing his destructive side. Going into the second half of the tournament, Rohit already has a hundred to his name. In the last IPL match against Rajasthan Royals, the MI opener failed to provide a good start. Rohit was undone by a Trent Boult brilliance in the first ball of the IPL match. The dashing opener would be hoping to put on a better performance against Rajasthan in todays IPL match at the Sawai Mansingh Cricket Stadium.
