Emerging as a dynamic force in IPL 2024, Mayank Yadav has set tongues wagging with his formidable bowling prowess, claiming a staggering six wickets across three gripping encounters for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The blistering pace displayed by the young seamer has left a lasting impression on cricketing veterans, notably former chief selector MSK Prasad, who advocates for Yadav's inclusion in the Indian squad for the imminent T20 World Cup, slated to follow the IPL extravaganza.

Prasad contends that the absence of the seasoned Mohammed Shami, currently sidelined due to injury, opens a window of opportunity for Mayank Yadav to unleash his potential on the global stage. While acknowledging Yadav's limited experience in other formats, Prasad underscores the unique demands of T20 cricket, where the IPL serves as a formidable proving ground. The ex-BCCI chief selector emphasizes Yadav's utility as a potent third-seamer option alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, underscoring his ability to inject venom into India's bowling attack.

“Had it been some other format, probably I would have thought differently. I would have taken a call only after watching him for a couple of bilateral series. But IPL is in itself a mega platform where you can showcase your talent because every game involves pressure. Mayank is someone who has shown he can absorb pressure and bowl consistently at a good line,” said MSK Prasad during a recent interview.

“He has already troubled the best of the lot with his pace. If they are not being able to bring the bat down against the pace, he has been generating, I think he will be handy. And looking at the Indian bowling, especially with Shami now being ruled out, the selectors must be looking for a third seamer after Bumrah and Siraj. Someone with that kind of pace and accuracy, deserves a place in the T20 World Cup squad,” he added.

During the match against the Gujarat Titans, Mayank sustained a side strain injury, restricting him to bowling just one over. Post-match, all-rounder Krunal Pandya indicated that Mayank appeared to be alright, although official confirmation from LSG is still pending.
