History has been created at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi as Bangladesh have registered their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan. In the first Test match, Bangladesh have marched ahead with a sensational 10-wicket win over hosts Pakistan. The visiting Bangladesh team have worked extremely hard during these five days to beat Pakistan on their home soil and they also become the first team to beat the hosts by a massive margin of 10 wickets in their own backyard. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh side have now taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series and the second and final Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test match is scheduled to start from 30 August, 2024 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan vs Bangladesh: Rahim's fabulous knock and Mehidy's amazing spell rattles Pakistan
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Pakistan did not had the best of starts as they lost the trio of Abdullah Shafique, skipper Shan Masood and Babar Azam with just 16 runs on the scoreboard. The duo of Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan then bailed their team out of trouble with an impressive partnership of 98 runs. Ayub scored his maiden half-century. Rizwan also registered a fabulous 240-run stand alongside Saud Shakeel for the fifth wicket. Shakeel smashed a blazing knock of 141 runs while Rizwan played an outstanding innings of 171 runs that included 11 fours and 3 sixes as Pakistan declared their first innings at 448 for 6 in 113 overs.
In the second innings, Bangladesh's opener Shadman Islam batted really well to hold his feet at one end. Islam played a fantastic innings of 93 runs off 183 balls that consisted of 12 boundaries while Mominul Haque scored a fine fifty. However, the standout innings came from Bangladesh's senior wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim who notched up 191 runs. Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan also scored 56 and 77 runs respectively as Bangladesh were bowled out for a mammoth score of 565 runs with a first innings lead of 117 runs.
While trailing a first innings lead of 117 runs, Pakistan once again had a terrible start losing as many as four key wickets for just 67 runs on the scoreboard. Bangladesh's young pacer Nahid Rana surprised everyone as he dismissed Pakistan's batting icon Babar Azam in 26th over. Just like the first innings, Rizwan once again held the fortunes for Pakistan from one end. He scored 51 runs but Pakistan were bundled out for 146 runs in 55.5 overs. For Bangladesh, off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz took four crucial wickets while Shakib Al Hasan picked up three scalps.
Bangladesh chased down the mere target of 30 runs quiet easily in just 6.3 overs to deliver a staggering counter-punch especially after the hosts decided to declare their first innings. For his exceptional knock with the bat, Mushfiqur Rahim was named the Player of the Match.
