Bismah Maroof, an emblematic figure in Pakistan's women's cricket, bids farewell to her international career, culminating a remarkable 17-year journey adorned with triumphs and milestones. Her legacy as Pakistan's premier run-scorer in both ODIs and T20Is will resonate through the annals of cricketing history. Maroof's cricketing odyssey commenced in 2006 with a debut against arch-rivals India in Jaipur, marking the genesis of a storied career etched with resilience and dedication. Throughout her tenure, she etched her name indelibly into the annals of cricketing history, leaving an indomitable mark.

In 136 One-Day Internationals, Maroof amassed a staggering 3369 runs, showcasing her prowess with an average of 29.55. Her innings were punctuated with 21 half-centuries, each a testament to her unwavering skill and determination, with a top score of 99. Similarly, in 140 T20Is, she dazzled spectators with 2893 runs to her name, including 12 fifties, boasting an average of 27.55.

Not only was Bismah Maroof a formidable batter, but she also epitomized leadership, captaining the side in 96 games, including 62 T20Is and 34 ODIs. Under her astute leadership, Pakistan clinched victory in 16 One-Day Internationals and 27 T20Is, a testament to her strategic acumen and ability to inspire her team to greatness. As she hangs up her boots, Maroof leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come, embodying the spirit of perseverance, excellence, and sportsmanship on and off the field. Her contributions to the game transcend statistics, leaving an indelible mark on Pakistan's cricketing landscape.

"I have decided to retire from the game I love the most. It has been an incredible journey, filled with challenges, victories, and unforgettable memories. I want to express my gratitude to my family, who has supported me throughout my cricketing journey, from the very beginning until now," stated Bismah Maroof as quoted in a release by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

In the recent three-match ODI series against West Indies women on home turf, Pakistan's skipper, Javeria Khan, led her team through a challenging battle, resulting in a disappointing 0-3 series loss. Amidst the struggle, Bismah Maroof, a prominent figure in the squad, showcased resilience, contributing with a commendable 91 runs across the series. As the focus shifts to the upcoming three-match T20I series against the same opponents, scheduled to kick off on April 26, Maroof's presence in the lineup was anticipated. However, her recent announcement casts uncertainty over her availability. Maroof's potential absence could pose a significant setback for the team, prompting speculation and concern among fans and pundits alike. With her pivotal role in both formats of the game, Pakistan will be closely monitoring her status ahead of the crucial T20 clashes against the West Indies.

"I also want to extend my thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board for believing in me and providing the platform to showcase my talent. The support from the PCB has been invaluable, particularly in implementing the first-ever parental policy for me, which enabled me to represent my country at the highest level while being a mother. Lastly, I would like to thank my fellow players, who have become like family to me. The camaraderie we shared both on and off the field is something I will cherish forever," Maroof added.
