Pat Cummins has been named captain of the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year for the second consecutive year, a perfect example to his outstanding leadership and stellar performances. The Australian pacer played a key role in leading his side to the ICC World Test Championship Final. During the year, he led Australia to victories against Pakistan, New Zealand, and India, while also claiming 37 wickets in nine Tests at an average of 24.02, further solidifying his place among the game's elite. India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal claims a spot in the team as an opening batsman after a remarkable year. The young left-hander amassed 1,478 runs at an impressive average of 54.74.

His exceptional performances included double-centuries in consecutive Tests against England in February and a magnificent 161 against Australia in Perth, showcasing his skill and consistency at the highest level. Ben Duckett joins Jaiswal at the top of the order, one of four Englishmen to make the team. Duckett scored 1,149 runs in the year, playing a pivotal role in England’s Test cricket revival under the leadership of Ben Stokes. Along with Jaiswal and Duckett, other key players, including Joe Root, Harry Brook, and others, helped shape a dynamic and powerful lineup, making the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year a true representation of the best talent in world cricket.

The middle order of the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year is packed with centurions, featuring some of the best and most consistent batsmen in the format. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson was a standout, scoring 1,013 runs in 2024 at an impressive average of nearly 60, showcasing his class and consistency. Alongside him, England’s Joe Root and Harry Brook also made significant contributions, with Root leading the charge in terms of runs, amassing 1,556 runs and hitting six centuries – the most by any player during the year.

Brook, in particular, had a record-breaking year, scoring 1,100 runs, which included a remarkable 317 in a dominant win over Pakistan in October, making his mark as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket. Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis had a breakthrough year, hitting five centuries and becoming the fastest to 1,000 Test runs in 75 years, further cementing his place as one of the brightest prospects in the game.

Jamie Smith earns a well-deserved spot as the designated wicketkeeper in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year after a standout year, just six months after making his Test debut for England. He scored 637 runs in nine Tests, including a maiden century against Sri Lanka in August. Leading the bowling attack alongside captain Pat Cummins is India’s Ravindra Jadeja, whose all-round brilliance included 527 runs and 48 wickets in the year. New Zealand’s Matt Henry also claimed 48 wickets, impressing with his performances against Australia, India, and England.

The final member of the bowling group is India’s Jasprit Bumrah, who continues to dominate with the ball. Bumrah topped the wicket-taking charts with an outstanding 71 wickets in 2024, maintaining a phenomenal average of just 14.92. Together, these players form an exceptional Test team, showcasing skill, consistency, and versatility across all formats of the game.
