After winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and ending a 17-year title drought, the Indian national cricket team is ready for the next challenge: the ICC World Test Championship scheduled for 2025. However, before that, the Indian team will play a couple of home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, before travelling to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This will be the first time India travels to Australia after winning the last away series there 2-1. Speaking about this, Australian captain Pat Cummins shared his thoughts on Australia's chances in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
"The most recent Test match was, of course, the World Test Championship in neutral conditions, and we came out on top in that match. It's always fiercely competitive, and it always feels like it's 50-50. I'm 10 out of 10 excited for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," the Australia captain told Star Sports.
"The last two series here in Australia, we haven't been successful, so it's been a long time. Hopefully, it's time to make amends. You know, we've played them plenty of times where they've beaten us, but we've also had plenty of wins against them as well, which we'll draw confidence from," Cummins further said.
Throwing light on this, Australia batter Steve Smith also looked excited for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.
"It's going to be a great series. You know, India have been playing outstanding cricket. We've been playing really good cricket the last couple of years. You know, we haven't beaten India in the last two times they've come out here. Obviously got a terrific side, very well-balanced team, all bases covered.
"So, you know, they've played really good cricket out here. They've played good cricket when we've been over in India as well, where we know they're very, very difficult to beat. So it's going to be a big summer. It's going to be an exciting one. And yeah, I'm looking forward to it."
India faced Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka after clinching the T20 World Cup. In the Zimbabwe series, they won it by 4-1. However, in the next series against Sri Lanka, they faced an upset when the Lankan Lions won the 3-match ODI series by 2-1, followed by the loss of the T20I series. India will kickstart their preparation for the ICC World Test Championship with a home series against Bangladesh, which will start on 19th September in Chennai
