Prithvi Shaw has marked Instagram as his weapon against all the discussions surrounding him. A reaction from him, expressed on social media a few days ago, led to an MCA official elaborating on his conduct. The 25-year-old player was dropped from the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shaw, paying no heed to questions about his fitness and dedication, posted his List A batting records and asked what else he needs to do to prove that he belongs in the team. Days later, the MCA official listed all that Shaw can, and in fact should, do if he wants to retain his place in the domestic side. However, Shaw has come up with another cryptic post on his Instagram instead of reflecting on the criticism coming from all directions.
Prithvi Shaw retorts to recent criticism around fitness and conduct with another Instagram story
On Friday, a source from the Mumbai Cricket Association spoke at length about the reasons behind Prithvi Shaw's exclusion from the squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The official minced no words as he explained how Shaw's fitness made him unfit for the team. Moreover, the source revealed that Prithvi Shaw consistently missed the team’s practice and net sessions. A more concerning reason was when the official recalled the young batter returning at 6 AM, marking his absence from the team’s proceedings.
However, the information has not sat well with the youngster, who was once considered the next big thing in Indian cricket. Shaw once again turned to Instagram to share his thoughts on the claims. In his latest post, Shaw pointed out how people form opinions without having enough information. While he did not specify who his comments were directed at, the timing of his post has made things clear. Unlike his earlier post, where Shaw expressed disappointment over being excluded from the Mumbai List A squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy despite strong statistics, this one carried a more aggressive tone.
"If you don't understand it fully, don't speak on it. Too many people have full opinions, with half the facts," the story posted by Shaw read before the player added a, "Friyay" in it.
Shaw’s form in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy raised eyebrows. While his team, Mumbai, emerged victorious by defeating Madhya Pradesh in the final, Shaw's individual performance was less than impressive. Over nine innings, he failed to score more than 200 runs, averaging under 25, and often struggled with the new ball. Additionally, reports from the MCA suggested that Shaw’s poor behavior during the tournament, such as missing training sessions and arriving at the team hotel late after spending most of the night out, contributed to his dropping. These issues, combined with his underwhelming performance, have fueled further concerns within Mumbai cricket circles.
