Punjab's unbeaten streak ends at home as Royals claim the PBKS vs RR IPL 2025 match
Coming to the match in Mullanpur, Rajasthan Royals seemed to be dealing with the weight of their past defeats in IPL 2025 so far. However, across the history of the league, RR has proved that a lot might be their problem, but beating Punjab is rarely one of them. Ahead of the PBKS vs RR IPL 2025 fixture, it was anticipated for the match to be a one-sided affair where PBKS would come up in their head-to-head record. One part of the prediction turned true as the battle was one-sided at Mullanpur, inclined fairly to Rajasthan's side. The other part, not so much, as the 50-run victory in the match meant RR has won 17 of their 29 IPL meets, with PBKS clinching 12 of them.

Punjab Kings won the toss, and captain Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first in the team's first home game of the season. Rajasthan Royals arrived with only one victory in their last four matches. However, the team, with Sanju Samson back as the captain, looked to have hit form right from the start. Yashasvi Jaiswal, unable to get going until now, found his rhythm as the opening pair of Jaiswal and Sanju Samson charged to 53 runs in the powerplay. The first breakthrough for PBKS came as late as the 11th over when Lockie Ferguson got hold of Sanju Samson at 38 off 26, with the opening stand recorded at 89.
Jaiswal claimed his half-century before Ferguson struck again to dismiss the opener at 67 off 45. The No.3 batter, Riyan Parag, stayed till late to ensure that Rajasthan had an ideal end to the innings that started well. PBKS bowlers found some chances as Nitish Rana walked out swiftly after Jaiswal, but Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel found some boundaries to take the total to an impressive mark. Parag, meanwhile, remained unbeaten at 43 off 25 as Rajasthan Royals scored their first 200+ run total in IPL 2025.

The chase unraveled early for Punjab Kings as Jofra Archer decided the outcome right in the first over. The speedster struck twice, opening the chase with a first-ball wicket as he cleaned the stumps behind Priyansh Arya. Shreyas Iyer could not do much in front of the red-hot form of Archer, who struck again in the same over to dismiss the PBKS captain at 10 off 5. While PBKS looked done in the first over of the chase itself, the young Nehal Wadhera put up some resistance before he finally shed the armour.

The middle-order prospect fought a lone war, taking on the RR bowlers splendidly. Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell, after the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Prabhsimran Singh departed cheaply, chipped in with a 6, 4, 1, and 6 against Kumar Karthikeya as Wadhera stood firm at the other end. The youngster brought in some fire of his own, taking on Wanindu Hasaranga to mark his half-century.
However, the spinner returned to end the fight as he scalped Nehal Wadhera at 62 off 41 in the 16th over. Matters fared fairly seamlessly for RR from there as the bowlers ensured that victory came at a higher margin. The match finally wrapped up with Rajasthan Royals picking up a 50-run victory as the 3-match unbeaten streak of PBKS in IPL 2025 ended at their home.
