Punjab Kings opener placed their team on the path of another victory until rain in Kolkata derailed their efforts. Not shortly after the home team tuned into the chase of 202, rain hit Eden Gardens. The clouds in Kolkata persisted long enough until the match officials called off the KKR vs PBKS IPL 2025 match. Both the teams ended up sharing the points as Punjab Kings now have 11 points while KKR sit with 7 points. Moreover, PBKS and KKR retained their spots, 5th and 7th respectively, on the IPL 2025 points table.

The decision of Shreyas Iyer to bat first after winning the toss at Eden Gardens was proved right by the opening duo. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya got PBKS to a flying start as the home team failed to curb the batters early in the match. With Priyansh Arya taking seamlessly on Vaibhav Arora and Chetan Sakariya, Punjab crossed the 50-run mark in the powerplay itself. Looking in sublime rhythm, the young opening duo kept the boundaries coming in at a healthy rate as Punjab Kings got to 100 in the 11th over.

The opener, who hit a century against Chennai Super Kings earlier this season, smashed a fifty in just 27 deliveries as KKR struggled for the breakthrough. Finally, the crisis man for Kolkata, Andre Russell, drew the first blood, dismissing Priyansh Arya in the 12th over as Vaibhav Arora held the batsman in the deep. Russell's breakthrough broke the opening partnership, which had charged to 120 runs by then. Shreyas Iyer came in next while Prabhsimran, in rich vein of form, continued his onslaught from the other end. Claiming his fifty, Prabhsimran bashed Sakariya and Varun Chakravarthy in the middle overs before Vaibhav Arora dismissed the opener at 83 off 49.

The game slowed down for Punjab Kings from there. Glenn Maxwell departed without any impact as Varun Chakravarthy dismissed him at just 7 runs. Shreyas Iyer failed to keep the momentum going as KKR bowlers successfully dried up the runs in the death overs. With Marco Jansen also departing cheaply, Punjab Kings managed just 42 runs in the last five overs. Nonetheless, the opening stand was strong enough for the visitors to cross the 200-run mark despite the impressive bowling by Vaibhav Arora and Andre Russell.

Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz opened the 202-run chase for KKR at the home turf. However, just an over into the second innings, rain arrived at the venue. The opening duo managed 7 runs in the opening over before the teams departed to their respective dugouts. An hour-long wait ensued. While the lightning and drizzling halted for a bit, it duly returned before the teams could resume the action without losing any overs. Eventually, the officials called off the match, reading the inability of the ground to be ready in time for the match to be completed.
