Rashid Khan is an international cricket and the captain of Afghanistan national cricket team in the shorter format of the game, he has made a global name all over the world, by playing in different leagues and excelling in them. The mighty spinner was born on September 20, 1998, in Nangarhar, Eastern Afghanistan. He belongs to Jalalabad and has ten siblings. However, when the leg spinner was young his family fled the Afghan war and lived in Pakistan for a few years before returning to Afghanistan and resuming their normal life with Rashid continuing his schooling.
At a young age, the Afghanistan captain grew up playing cricket with his brothers, where he used to idolise the former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi for his bowling and while growing up, he styled his bowling action.
International Career
The Afghanistan star spinner is just 25 -years old and is unmarried. Despite being too young he has already achieved a lot in his career due to his presence, it would not be wrong to say that Afghanistan cricket has grown a lot in the last 7-8 years. He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2015 and soon, he became a sensation with his leg spin. He is the youngest player to lead his team in ODIs and Test.
Rashid Khan has grown a lot as a bowler since his debut in international cricket after just 2 years of his debut, the Afghanistan leggy took his maiden T20I five-wicket haul at the second T20I against Ireland, on March 10, 2017. Not only that, his figures of five wickets for three runs is the best bowling performance by an Afghan cricket in a T20I and the joint fourth-best figures in all T20Is, which made him the first player to take a five-wicket haul in two overs in a T20I match. Later, On June 9, he took his second ODI five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 7 wickets for 18 runs against the West Indies at Gros Islet. It was the fourth-best ODI bowling figures and first by an associate nation cricketer to take 7 wickets.
Test Career
After making his Test debut against India on June 14, 2018, where he was unable to perform and conceded a lot of runs, the Mighty leg spinner bounced back hard in the next test series against Ireland, where he took 5 wickets for 82 runs, becoming the first bowler for Afghanistan to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match.
Captaincy
After the 2019 first Debut World Cup for the Afghanistan team, the star player was appointed as the captain of Afghanistan national cricket team across all three formats, where he played as the first match test captain against Bangladesh in September 2019, which was won by Afghanistan by 224 runs.
During this game, Rashid Khan became the first bowler for Afghanistan to take a ten-wicket haul in Tests and was the first cricketer to score a fifty in his debut match as captain in a Test match. However, after this series, the Afghanistan cricket board again appointed Asghar Afghan as the captain of the Afghanistan national cricket team. Although, after being nominated for the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Decade award. In July 2021, Khan was again named the captain of Afghanistan's T20I team
