After defeating Sri Lanka in the final match of the series, Men in Blue have won the 3-match T20I series against the Island Nation. This win was decided through Super Over when it got tied. Indian needed 3 runs to win the super over, which came when the debutant captain Suryakumar Yadav, hit the first ball for four after defending 6 runs in the 20th overs. It would not be wrong to say that the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka came out with alot of positives for the Indian team, which they can use in the upcoming matches. Through this article, we are going to talk about 5 positives from the India vs Sri Lanka series.
5 positives from the India vs Sri Lanka series
1. Equal Opportunities to perform
Understanding the impeccable talent and skill of the young players in the squad, Gautam Gambhir and co. have given equal opportunity to every player in the playing XI. So, they go out and play their best game for the Indian team which will not only promote a youngster but also make him believe in management.
Despite average performance with the bat, the team management has backed Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag for the Sri Lanka series, which made them believe in their ability.
2. Bowling options
In the India vs Sri Lanka series, we have seen Men in Blue using different bowling options, which results in India’s advantage, whether it’s the use of Riyan Parag or captain Suryakumaer rolling his arm to bowl the final over of the innings in the last match of the series. These crucial decisions and changes by the new head, Gautam Gambhir, have made India even stronger in the shorter format of the game as if a bowler is going through a lot of runs, the team can go to these players to bowl a few overs.
The same was done by Gautam Gambhir for Kolkata Knight Riders when he sent Sunil Narine to open the innings with Phil Salt, who later helped them to win the title. In the coming years, we can see multiple changes in the T20I squad of the Indian team, where every player is going to contribute to his full potential.
3. Aggressive Intent
The Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is known for his aggressive intent in the batting where he has been seen dominating bowlers with his orthodox shots in every direction that helps put pressure on the opposition. Under his captaincy, the team has been seen playing with aggressive intent, where the openers are seen giving a flying start to the team with middle order talking forward and finishers doing their job perfectly.
4. Suyakumar’s leadership
India whitewashed the Sri Lankan team in the 3-match T20 I series by defeating them in the final match. It was also the first series win for the Indian Captain and coach Gautam Gambhir after handling the responsibility of their respective roles. Despite playing his first series as the captain of the Indian team, it never looked like Surya was leading the team for the first time on the international stage as each player looked confident with his decisions having a fun-loving environment among young players.
5. Batting Depth
After finish of the series, we can see that the Indian team has a deep batting depth in their batting order. With players like Washington Sundar and Rinku Singh, Men in Blue can build a partnership and take the team to a respectable total after facing a collapse at the start of the innings. This helps the openers and middle-order players to play fearlessly.
By defeating Sri Lanka, Men in Blue have won 2-back-to-back T20I series carrying their legacy of Champions forward after the finish of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. After this win, Men in Blue will be ready for the ODI series in which their senior players will make a return after winning the World Cup finals against South Africa.
