Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has joined the hands with Punjab Kings for the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. Punjab Kings have been looking for a coach for a long time after parting ways with Trevor Bayliss. Looking at the upcoming mega auction, the Preety Zinta owned franchise have been seen struggling over the years failing to qualify for the playoffs, it’s also one of the reasons that before going to next season they want to have an experienced leader in their team who can change the destiny of Punjab Kings in the next season.

"I am grateful to Punjab Kings for presenting me with the opportunity to be the new Head Coach. I am excited to take up the new challenge. I had great conversations with the owners and the management about the way forward and was truly elated to see the alignment of our visions for the team. We all want to repay the fans who have stayed with the franchise over the years and we promise that they will see a much different Punjab Kings going forward," Ponting was quoted as saying in a media release.

Both Punjab Kings and Ponting explored other options. Punjab Kings considered several candidates, including an Indian, while Ponting received interest from other IPL teams. However, as negotiations advanced, they finalized this agreement.

Ponting holds a stellar reputation within the IPL ecosystem and is highly regarded for his ability to inspire young talent and maintain professionalism. His coaching style, with a strong emphasis on discipline and nurturing potential, has been particularly appreciated by players like Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, both of whom thrived under his guidance at Delhi Capitals.
