Despite boasting an impressive first-class average of 54.70, Rinku Singh did not secure a spot in the squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which is set to commence on September 5. Known for his flair in white-ball cricket, Singh has consistently been part of the limited-overs setup, but he has expressed a strong desire to break into Test cricket for the national team. Rinku Singh recently shared his deep passion for red-ball cricket, emphasizing his ambition to excel across all three formats of the game. Although he acknowledges the allure and significance of white-ball cricket, his focus remains firmly set on making a mark in Test cricket. Singh’s aspiration is not just to participate but to thrive in Test matches, reflecting his broader vision of contributing significantly to the Indian team in every format.

The Aligarh-born cricketer's recent comments highlight his dedication and commitment to red-ball cricket, despite the high-profile nature of white-ball formats. While many cricketers chase success in limited-overs cricket, Singh’s goal is to establish himself as a versatile player capable of delivering in Test matches as well. His omission from the Duleep Trophy squad has sparked discussions about his future in the longer format, but Singh remains hopeful and determined to make his mark in Test cricket.

“I want to play all three formats of the game. I like playing Test cricket a lot. My batting average in red-ball cricket is 55. I really like to play against the red ball. I enjoy it thoroughly. Test cricket is very big cricket. Every cricketer plays white-ball cricket but playing Test cricket is a massive deal, especially in this era. I am eager to play,” said Rinku Singh during a recent interview.

Rinku Singh was widely considered a strong contender for a spot in India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. However, due to limited opportunities in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, he struggled to find his rhythm, which ultimately led the selectors to choose Shivam Dube over him. Despite this setback, Rinku remains positive and focused on his long-term goals.

Singh has expressed that while he is naturally disappointed by not making it into the World Cup squad, he understands that selection decisions are beyond his control. He is determined not to let this setback deter him. Instead, Rinku is committed to working harder to improve his game and increase his chances for future selections.

Looking ahead, Rinku is setting his sights on the next T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by India in 2026. He is dedicated to enhancing his performance and ensuring that he is in peak form for that tournament. Singh’s attitude reflects his resilience and dedication to his cricketing career. He is ready to embrace the challenge of refining his skills and proving himself, with the aim of contributing to the Indian team in future international competitions. His focus remains steadfast on achieving his dreams and making a significant impact on the global stage.

“Every player dreams about playing for the country in the World Cup, and it is my dream as well. I had done well for India, but team selection is not in my hands. Maybe they (selectors) haven’t seen me bowling at that time; otherwise, it would have been a different scenario. It was the selector’s call, due to team combination (failed to find a place), but no problem; I will play in the World Cup next time. I will work harder," Rinku added.
