India captain Rohit Sharma has showered praise on India’s young batting sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal. The skipper said that Jaiswal knows how to play according to different situations despite being so young. The 22-year-old Indian batter has scored 1217 runs at an average of just 64.05 and a strike rate of 71.67 in 11 Tests played thus far. He is, currently, the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing WTC cycle.
In a recent press conference conducted ahead of the first Test against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma shared his view on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s future in international cricket.
"I'm not surprised by how Yashasvi has adapted to international cricket. He has real talent and the game to play in all sorts of conditions. Despite being very young, he has shown the capability to manage himself well in various situations. He possesses all the ingredients necessary for success at this level.” Rohit Sharma said.
Rohit Sharma wants Jaiswal to not get carried away and continue to work hard on his skillset. Sharma highlighted Jaiswal’s exceptional numbers in domestic cricket and how his performances helped him become an integral part of the Indian team in international cricket.
In the recent Test series against Bangladesh, Yashasvi Jaiswal amassed 189 runs across four innings at an average of 47.25 and a strike rate of more than 80. He was nothing short of sensational in the Test series against England in 2024.
The 22-year-old batter wreaked havoc with the bat, finishing the series as the highest run-scorer. Averaging 89.00, Jaiswal smashed 712 runs in five Tests, which included two centuries.
“He's an aggressor and always eager to learn “- Rohit Sharma
The Indian captain is pretty impressed with Jaiswal’s desire to keep learning and improve his batting. The southpaw isn’t content with what he has achieved and wants to strive further.
“Being a left-hander is advantageous for the team. He's an aggressor and always eager to learn the game and improve his batsmanship. The mindset he has shown, always wanting to learn, always striving to improve and not being content with his achievements is remarkable. " Rohit added.
Meanwhile, day 1 of the first Test match between India and New Zealand at the Chinnaswamy stadium has been washed out due to incessant rain. The toss was scheduled to take place at 9 am, however, relentless rain didn't let that happen as well.
