Whether they retort or not, players remain aware of the chatter surrounding them at all times over form and performance issues. It seems like Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has reached his threshold of fielding questions over his struggling form currently. The Test season concluded dramatically for India, who lost their nearly set spot in the WTC Final due to the 3-1 defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Unfortunately for India, senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli emerged as the core of the problems that India struggled against down under. Moreover, insights, not the positive kind, from the squad came to the surface, hinting at friction between the team members, including head coach Gautam Gambhir. The ordinary Test run brought severe scrutiny for the coach and skipper Rohit Sharma. However, awaiting the side ahead is a crucial ODI season, with the ICC Champions Trophy lined up ahead.

Rohit Sharma shots back at queries over his form ahead of first India vs England ODI

Leaving the ghosts of a horrible Test run behind, India is set to commence the ODI season against England. After England sustained a 1-4 defeat in the T20I series, the onus now falls on the 50-over squad to keep up the side's performance in the India vs England white-ball series. With the ODI series slated to start on February 6 in Nagpur, skipper Rohit Sharma addressed the press on the eve of the first match. As anticipated, Rohit was treated to some burning questions over his recent struggles to score runs, as witnessed in his stint for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy as well.

The Indian captain, meanwhile, didn't respond kindly to the scrutiny. Clearly miffed at the query, Sharma grilled the reporter as he highlighted the change in the format. With the ICC Champions Trophy tailing the India vs England series closely, the side is fortifying their attack. Rohit, moreover, refused to talk about his future in the game after the ICC Champions Trophy, as he dashed the speculations with a razor-sharp reply.

“What kind of a question is that? This is a different format, different time," Rohit shot back at a query that brought his BGT performance into conversation. "As usual, as cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs, and I have faced a lot in my career, so this is nothing new to me. We know every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series,” Rohit added.

"How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans sitting here, where we have three ODIs and the Champions Trophy coming up? The reports have been going on for a number of years. But I am not here to clarify those reports. For me right now, these three games here and then the Champions Trophy are very, very important. So, my focus is on these games,” Rohit further retorted when the telltale questions about his retirement loomed.
