On 30th April 1987, a young cricket legend by the name of Rohit Gurunath Sharma was born. Rohit Sharma, as he’s commonly known, was born and raised in Bansod, Nagpur, Maharashtra. His father wasn't able to take care of him due to his financial constraints, so he was brought up by his doting grandparents. He often visited his parents during the weekends who lived in a single-room house in Dombivli, Mumbai. He also has a younger brother named Vishal Sharma.
Despite all the hardships he faced, he didn’t let his passion for cricket die and started playing at a young age. He quickly emerged as one of the cricketers to look out for. Currently, he is the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, in all formats. He plays as a right-handed batsman and is considered one of the best batsmen this generation has seen. Apart from playing for Team India, he has exhibited his batting abilities in International Cricket (T20, ICC Champions Trophy, etc.) and also IPL (he was the captain for Mumbai Indians, and the team won 5 times!).
Early Life
From a very young age, he knew he wanted to be a cricketer when he grew up. When he was 12, he decided to join a cricket camp in 1999, by borrowing money from his uncle. His coach at the camp, Dinesh Lad, saw the potential in him and suggested he change his school to Swami Vivekanand International School as it had better cricket facilities and made sure he got the scholarship as well so he could focus on his budding career.
After completing 4 years in the school, he started playing as an off-spinner and got promoted from number eight to open the innings! In school, he excelled in the Harris and Giles Shield school cricket tournaments and once, scored a century as an opener. And it was just the beginning!
