Rohit Sharma, who is currently the captain of the Indian cricket team in all three formats, will be ready to lead men in blue in the upcoming ICC men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in the USA and West Indies from next month. Being one of the best batsmen in the world, the expectation from Hitman will be very high after his incredible performance in the last ICC event, where he was the second-highest run scorer of the tournament after Virat Kohli with 597 runs in 11 games with an average of 54.27, having 1 hundred and 3 half-centuries to his name. However, after scoring most of the runs in the ongoing IPL 2024 in the initial stage of the tournament, the Indian Captain has been seen missing his form from the last 4-5 games for the Mumbai-based franchise, which is a big concern for the Indian team and fans as the stage has been already set for the marquee event.

Going through Rohit Sharma stats in ODI cricketHe made his International Debut in a one-day match in June 2007. He scored 52 runs against Pakistan in November 2007 and was then selected for the 2007–08 Commonwealth Bank Series.

Rohit Sharma has great records in 50 overs formats in ICC World Cup, but when it comes to the shorter format of the game, he has failed to score runs. Today, through this news piece, we will go through Rohit Sharma’s total runs in all T20 World Cup tournaments for the Men in Blue.

Rohit has played the most T20 World Cup tournaments for the Indian team. He has been representing the Indian team since the 2007 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, along with Bangladesh spinner Shakib Al Hasan. Rohit was part of the Indian team in 2007 World Cup, who won the maiden trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan. Despite this Rohit comes at number 4 overall and second from India in terms of scoring most runs in the T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli, who played his debut World Cup in 2012, is leading at the top by scoring 1141 runs in 27 matches with an average of 81, having 14 half-centuries to his name. Meanwhile, Rohit has scored 963 runs in 39 games with an average of 34, having 9 fifties to his name.

2007 T20 World Cup

It was the first time a World Cup, was played in a 20-overs format, which revolutionised the cricketing format completely. After this, different leagues have been organised, in different countries that played a major role in the modernization of cricket. The 2007 World Cup was won by the Indian team, a young Indian team under a young captain, who has nothing to lose rather than proving himself on the International stage by playing an aggressive brand of cricket.

Rohit debuted for the Indian team in 2006 against New Zealand A in July 2006. He scored 57 and 22 as India won by 3 wickets. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai in the 2006–07 season and scored 205 off 267 balls against Gujarat. So Rohit has already made a big name in domestic cricket before playing his debut T20 World Cup for the first timehe scored 88 runs in 4 games. However, he didn’t get so many chances in the debut World Cup. But his batting ability as a finisher lower down the order impressed everyone when he scored crucial knocks against South Africa and arch-rivals Pakistan of 50 and 30 runs respectively.

2009 T20 World Cup

Pakistan won the 2009 T20 World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka at the iconic Lords Stadium in London. Whereas the defending champions India, had a forgettable outing in the second edition of the T20 World Cup as they were knocked out of the tournament, hosted by England, after losing three matches in a row against West Indies, England, and South Africa in the Super 8 stage.

The Indian Captain scored 131 runs in 5 games with an average of 131, which includes, 1 half-centuries to his name.

2012 T20 World Cup

The ICC World Twenty20 was hosted by Sri Lanka from September 18 to October 7, 2012. It was the first time that the World Cup had been hosted by an Asian Country. West Indies won this marquee tournament after defeating Sri Lanka in the finals at Colombo by 36 runs. It was a continuous defeat by Sri Lanka in the Final of ICC T20 World Cup after last year's defeat by Pakistan.

After getting knocked out from the last World Cup in the group stage, the Indian team made a strong comeback in the 2012 ICC T20 World Cup, where they lost just 1 match and defeated teams like Afghanistan, England, and South Africa. However, India couldn't qualify for the next round due to a poor net run rate.

The performance of Rohit Sharma was not up to the mark as he scored just 82 runs in 5 games with an average of 41, having 1 half-century to his name. However, his teammate, Virat Kohli, was the leading run scorer from the Indian team with 185 runs in 5 games.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the highest run-getters from the Indian team as they finished the tournament with 200 and 319 runs in 6 games.

2016 T20 World CUP

The 2016 T20 World Cup was hosted by India for the first time and 3rd time, by an Asian Country after Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

India was the favourite to win the marquee tournament as it’s been played in their country. It would not be wrong to say that the Indian team performed brilliantly in the 2016 T20 World Cup by winning 7  out of 8 games in the group stage.

India qualified in the semi-finals but lost the match to West Indies in the second semi-finals played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by 7 wickets with just 2 balls remaining.

Virat Kohli was again the leading run-scorer for the Indian team with 273 runs in 5 games, having 3 half-centuries to his name. Whereas, it was a disappointing World Cup for the Indian Captain Rohit Sharma, who just scored 88 runs in 5 games.

India failed to qualify for the knockouts of the T20 World Cup. Their chances took a beating after they lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in the Super 12 stage. The Virat Kohli-led side had to depend on run-rate and results of other matches to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, which didn't happen

Rohit's performance in this World Cup was pleasing as he finished the tournament with the second-highest run-getter from the Indian team after KL Rahul with 174 runs in 5 matches with an average of 34 having 2 half-centuries to his name.
