3. 241* v Australia – 4th Test, Sydney, January 3, 2004
Have you thought about how much it would be for a batsman not to play the shot in which he has expertise? Yes! It would be very difficult for any batsman in the world. But not with the greatest batsman in the world. Sachin was going through a horrible form of his career, which made him score his best score, in the longest format of the game without any cover drive, as the Australian bowlers had made him out while driving the bowl for a cover drive in the previous 3 test matches.
Tendulkar abstained from offering a shot to anything pitched up, on or outside the off stump. The result – an innings of 241 not out, played over a period of 10 hours and 13 minutes, during which Tendulkar refused to be lured into playing the cover drive. Really, it was the one time when the king shackled himself into playing like a commoner, but the innings was as exquisite as any of his flashier ones.
If we talk about Sachin Tendulkar Stats in one format, which Tendulkar played the most in his 24 years of career was the 50 overs format, where he has played a total of 464 ODIs for Men in Blue, scoring 18426 runs with an average of 46, having 1 double hundred and 49 hundred to his name.
