In a campaign that is crumbling by the day, Rajasthan Royals have been dealt another blow. Team captain Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the upcoming RCB vs RR clash in IPL 2025. The skipper sustained a side injury while batting against Delhi Capitals in the DC vs RR match. The injury forced him to retire hurt during the chase, and its impact extended into the RR vs LSG fixture as well. Now, the latest update from the Rajasthan camp confirms that Samson is set to miss the next game too. The RR squad will travel to Bengaluru for the match against RCB, scheduled for Thursday, April 24. Meanwhile, Riyan Parag is likely to continue leading the side, while young Vaibhav Suryavanshi is poised to retain his place in the RR Playing XI.

Sanju Samson set to miss the RCB vs RR IPL 2025 match, update Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have been hit hard by a major setback as their skipper, Sanju Samson, is currently sidelined due to injury. The franchise issued an update on Monday regarding Samson’s condition, and the news isn’t encouraging. With four points from eight games, Rajasthan Royals find themselves on a four-match losing streak and are languishing in eighth place in the IPL 2025 standings.

Samson suffered an abdominal injury and missed the recent game against Lucknow Super Giants, where Riyan Parag stepped in as captain. Earlier in the season, the RR opener had featured only as a batting Impact Player in the first three matches due to a finger issue, before sustaining another injury in the DC vs RR IPL 2025 match on April 16. Forced to retire hurt during that game, he didn’t return to the field as the contest stretched into a Super Over defeat for DC.

Following medical scans conducted last week, Samson was officially ruled out. With him unavailable, the Royals handed a debut to 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who partnered Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top against LSG, becoming the youngest player ever to debut in IPL history. Providing an update ahead of their next clash, RR confirmed that Samson will not be part of the travelling squad to Bengaluru for the match against RCB. Instead, he’ll stay back at the team’s home base to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of medical staff.

“Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team’s home base with select RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB,” the franchise noted in a release.

Time is quickly running out for Rajasthan Royals to salvage their season, and they now face a high-stakes encounter against a resurgent Royal Challengers Bengaluru side. RCB currently sit third in the points table and are coming off a win against Punjab Kings. However, it would be interesting to note if the fan-favorites would finally be able to beat the Chinnaswamy curse as they meet a hampered RR side at home.
