Former Indian captain and legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar hinted at Team India call-up for Riyan Parag after his impressive knock against the Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday. He also advised the Rajasthan Royals all-rounder to perform consistently throughout the IPL 2024 season and make the most of each opportunity he gets. Riyan Parag put on a brilliant show with the bat alongside captain Sanju Samson against GT to post a challenging 196-run total on the board. The star all-rounder scored 76 runs off just 48 deliveries, bringing his third fifty of the season as he climbed to second spot in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap list. The IPL 2024 season is proving to be a major turnaround for the 22-year-old batter from Assam after he had failed to make a mark since his debut in 2019.

The 22-year-old batter from Assam is having a major breakthrough this IPL 2024 season following his debut in 2019. Riyan Parag, who is currently second on the Orange Cap list behind Virat Kohli, was praised by Gavaskar for making the most of his opportunity. Sunil Gavaskar advised the right-hander to continue batting with the same intent he has been after having great success this season. He also complimented his fielding and bowling abilities.

"Riyan Parag made Gujarat pay for those lapses. That's what cricket is all about. You get an opportunity, and you make the most of it. And he has made the most of it. He is playing some unbelievable cricket," Sunil Gavaskar told the official broadcaster after GT’s win over RR.

"Not just in the IPL, but right through the season, he has had enormous success. He is someone that the selection committee has got an eye on. And so all he needs to do is keep on batting the way he has been. His fielding, we all know about it, he is an excellent fielder. And he can bowl a few of those dribbly dobbies. I call them mixed pakodas," Gavaskar added.

Despite captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag's outstanding batting efforts (68* off 38 and 76 off 48), Rajasthan Royals' unbeaten streak in IPL 2024 came to an end due to Rashid Khan's all-round performance. Rashid Khan cut the last ball for a boundary to backward point region to help Gujarat Titans to a three-wicket win at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Umesh Yadav's poor line and length and some brute force of Shimron Hetmyer in the last over helped the Royals to post 196 for 3.

The Royals have been consistently losing both their openers early in the powerplay, which has led to Riyan Parag's rise in the IPL 2024 season. The right-hander demolished the GT bowling line-up, ensuring the team reached a competitive total. However, despite his valiant efforts, RR ended up on the losing side. Rajasthan Royals have a much shorter turnaround time as they head to Mullanpur to play Punjab Kings on Saturday (April 13).
