Bangladesh has created history after adding one more team to their list of victories against Test-playing nations. The Bangla Tigers, who surprised India in the 2007 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup by beating them and advancing from the group stage, have recently defeated India's arch-rivals Pakistan in the first Test of a 2-match series at Rawalpindi National Cricket Stadium by 10 wickets. This win came for Shanto and Co. during a difficult time for their country due to ongoing protests by students, which led to the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During these hard circumstances, the Bangladesh team made their fans smile by defeating the Pakistan team for the very first time in the red-ball format. This memorable win came after a long wait of 13 matches between these two Asian teams. With this win, the Bangladesh team has climbed to 6th position in the ICC World Test Championship rankings. Meanwhile, the Shaheens have reached the bottom of the table in 8th position.
Despite a brilliant performance by the Bangladesh team in the opening game of the Test series, there were several reasons for Pakistan's defeat, which led to embarrassment in international cricket.
Shaheen Afridi's 2nd Test Availability Doubtful
Shaheen Afridi is known as one of the best bowlers in international cricket. He has turned several games for the Men in Green with his impeccable bowling skills. However, in the first Test match against Bangladesh, the ace player failed to show his prowess, which led to their loss by 10 wickets. In his 30 overs of spell, the left-arm pacer managed to pick just 2 wickets.
Irrespective of his average performance, another reason he might be out of the team is that he has recently become a father after being blessed with a baby boy . Several reports have claimed that the left-arm pacer might opt to sit out of the decider in order to spend some time with his wife and family. So, if Shaheen is rested, Mir Hamza might get a chance to play, as he was impressive in the Pakistan Shaheens' four-day affair against Bangladesh A.
After losing the first game of the series, the Pakistan will face the final match of the series on August 30, 2024, at Rawalpindi National Cricket Stadium in Pakistan.
