Shakib Reveals The Reason Behind Wearing Neck Brace Ahead Of NED Clash

After winning the must-win game against Netherlands yesterday by 25 runs in the 27th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, the Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan opined about the reason behind wearing the Neck Brace before the much-anticipated game. Shakib played a match-winning knock of 64*(46) as Bangladesh, which helped them to defeat the Netherlands by 25 runs at Kingstown, keeping their Super Eights qualification in their hands ahead of the final group D match against Nepal.

After coming in to bat early when Bangladesh were 23 runs down for 2 wickets, Shakib came to the crease and took it upon himself to take them to a winning total as he carried the bat while also scoring 9 fours in his unbeaten knock of 64 runs. While talking about the game, the left-arm spinner highlighted the importance of a top-order player batting throughout the innings while also praising Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain, for their incredible bowling performance during the game.

"It was important for someone from the top four to bat through the innings. It was a tough pitch at the start, we held our nerves. It was a challenging total, not a winning one, but the bowlers chipped in perfectly. Rishad and Fizz took it away from the Netherlands," said the all-rounder.

The Netherlands had their moments, 10 runs an over on this ground in the last 7-8 overs, wind going in one way, made it tough to defend. But credit to the bowlers for defending the score. The neck brace was just for practising something," he concluded.

After a comfortable win against the Netherlands, Bangladesh are one step closer to the Super-8 stage, and will play against Nepal in their next contest.
