In a surprising turn of events, Shardul Thakur went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega auction after being released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the 18th edition of the tournament. The cricketer had registered for the auction at a base price of INR 2 crore, hoping to attract bids. However, to his disappointment, no franchise showed interest in him, and CSK decided not to exercise their Right To Match (RTM) option, leaving Shardul without a team. Despite the setback, the situation might soon change for the bowling all-rounder. Recent developments suggest that Shardul is in line to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad. Just days before the IPL 2025 kicks off, the Palghar Express was seen at the LSG training camp, sparking speculation about his potential move to the franchise.

A picture from his net session with the LSG setup has been circulating on social media, adding weight to the rumors that the franchise may be set to bring him on board. If confirmed, this move would be a welcome opportunity for Shardul, allowing him to participate in the highly anticipated tournament after a somewhat uncertain start. LSG’s interest in him could offer a fresh chapter in Shardul Thakur’s IPL career, as he looks to make an impact in the upcoming season.

Despite going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, Shardul Thakur's confidence remained undeterred as he delivered stellar performances in domestic cricket. The 2024-25 season saw him showcase his all-round abilities, picking up 35 wickets for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. With the bat, he contributed significantly, scoring 505 runs by the end of the season.

Shardul's impact was also felt in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where Mumbai triumphed under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. Shardul played a key role in the tournament, taking 15 wickets at an average of 24.53 across nine matches. His efforts made him the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai and the fourth-highest overall for the season. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the 50-over competition, Shardul continued to perform consistently, taking 10 wickets in seven games. Although Mumbai didn’t make it to the quarter-finals, Shardul’s individual contributions stood out.

Shardul Thakur's potential addition to the Lucknow Super Giants squad could be linked to ongoing injury concerns within the team. Key bowlers, including Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan, are still awaiting fitness clearance from the BCCI, raising doubts about their participation in the upcoming IPL season. LSG is set to begin their campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Visakhapatnam, and with the uncertainty surrounding their bowlers, Thakur's inclusion could prove vital.

With his outstanding form in domestic cricket, including impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shardul is confident and ready to make an impact for LSG. Although the team has yet to officially announce his addition, his recent form has made him a strong candidate to fill any gaps in the squad. The final confirmation of his inclusion is eagerly awaited by both fans and the franchise.
