In the second-round clash of the Duleep Trophy between India A and India D, Shreyas Iyer grabbed headlines after claiming the key wicket of India A captain Mayank Agarwal with the very first ball of his spell. Batting first, India A posted a total of 290 runs. In response, Shreyas Iyer’s team struggled and was bowled out for just 183. In their second innings, Mayank Agarwal's side built on their 107-run lead, adding 115 runs for the loss of just one wicket by the close of play on day 2.
As for the lone wicket India A lost in the second innings, Shreyas Iyer delivered a crucial breakthrough, striking on the very first ball of his spell once again. On the first ball of the 29th over, Shreyas Iyer surprised Mayank Agarwal with a well-flighted delivery. Agarwal attempted to flick it to the leg side but was deceived by the flight, ending up guiding the ball straight back to Iyer, who took an excellent catch off his own bowling.
Despite his success with the ball, Shreyas Iyer had a disappointing stint with the bat, scoring a duck off seven balls in the first innings. Additionally, he made headlines by batting in sunglasses. In the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024, Iyer has played three innings, managing to score a fifty-plus total in only one of them.
This isn't the first time Shreyas Iyer has captured attention with his bowling. He also made waves in the recently concluded Buchi Babu tournament by imitating Sunil Narine's bowling action.
