Shreyas Iyer has dashed the reports suggesting that the batter will miss the next fixture for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. The return of Shreyas Iyer in domestic cricket has been a dramatic one. The batter lost his central contract with the BCCI earlier this year as he ignored multiple reminders from the board to play domestic matches. However, the batter made a positive return as he joined the Duleep Trophy tournament in August this year. Subsequently, the batter featured in the Irani Cup before taking on the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Moreover, Iyer seems to have picked his form back up as he hit an impressive century in the last Ranji fixture against Maharashtra.
Shreyas Iyer slams reports about missing the next Ranji Trophy fixture
On Monday, it was reported that Shreyas Iyer will miss the next fixture for Mumbai set to start on October 26. The batter didn’t travel with the squad to Agartala where Mumbai will take on Tripura in the third match of the ongoing first class tournament. The reports further suggested that Iyer will take at least a week long break to return to the team. The update about Iyer’s absence explained that the left-handed batter picked up a shoulder injury during the match against Maharashtra where he came up with a century. At the conclusion of the clash that ended up in Mumbai’s victory, Iyer had talked about prioritising his fitness.
"No matter whatever people think outside, I have to listen to my body because I know the amount of threshold I've carried over the last few years and based on that I'll be taking the right decision and I hope that my team will also back (me)," he said.
Subsequently, reports that claimed MCA as their source informed that Iyer, on the back of playing seven consecutive multi-days, is looking to take a break now. However, early on Wednesday morning, Shreyas Iyer took to his social media to urge the media houses to complete their due research before publishing news. His tweet suggests that the player will take the field for Mumbai at Agartala against Tripura despite the updates about him enduring a shoulder injury.
"Guys seriously let’s do some homework before publishing news," Shreyas Iyer wrote on X as he rubbished the reports doing the rounds on the internet.
