Shreyas Iyer will play for Mumbai in Buchi Babu tournament

The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper is all set to play in one of the oldest cricket tournaments in the cricketing world from Mumbai. Iyer has recently made a return to the Men in Blue after performing well in the 17th edition of the IPL ( Indian Premier League) from Kolkata Knight Riders franchise, where he helped them to end the title drought of 10-long years by winning the tournament under the coaching of former Indian Cricketer and current coach of the Indian national cricket team Gautam Gambhir.

Shreyas Iyer was among the leading run-scorers from the Kolkata-based franchise with 351 runs in 14 matches with an average of 39, having 2 half-centuries to his name.

Despite his brilliant performance in IPL, he could not carry his prime favour in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he just scored 38 runs in 3 ODIs, which caused Men in Blue to lose a bilateral series after 27 years from Sri Lanka by 2-0. Before heading to the test series against Bangladesh, the right-hand batter will try solidifying his place in the Indian team.

He will be seen playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament along with T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav in the opening game against Jammu and Kashmir in Coimbatore from August 27.

After Suryakumar Yadav's confirmation to take part in the renowned league, the  Mumbai Cricket Association joint secretary Deepak Patil issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that Iyer will also be available for the game against Jammu and Kashmir.

This statement comes after looking at India's busy test schedule where they will be playing Test against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia in the process of the ICC World Test Championship 2025. Apart from that, the Indian players will also be seen playing in the upcoming Duleep Trophy starting on September 5, 2024, as it will be a great opportunity to pick the players based their performance in India's domestic season.

The Mumbai Team will led be by Sarafaraz Khan in the marquee tournament starting from August 15, 2024.
