Shubman Gill is not concerned about Gujarat Titans' middle-order in IPL 2025
The Gujarat Titans made a brilliant winning comeback in the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) having registered a pretty convincing 36-run victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. This is the opening win for the IPL 2022 champions after they suffered a poor 11-run defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their first match of this T20 competition. With this important victory, the Gujarat Titans also maintained their unbeaten streak against Mumbai Indians at their home ground in Ahmedabad.
For the Gujarat Titans, left-handed opener Sai Sudharsan has been in an unbelievable form so far in the IPL 2025 season. He has smashed back-to-back half-centuries against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. Sherfane Rutherford did receive a lot of criticism as he failed to counter Punjab's death bowling in the first match, but the southpaw still ended up smashing 46 runs off just 28 balls and also scored 18 runs against Mumbai. Moreover, Jos Buttler has provided vital contributions in the middle-order so far for the Gujarat Titans in this tournament.
“I don’t think so (middle order is a concern). Even in the previous match (vs Punjab Kings), I think, yes it was a high-scoring game, and we were chasing around 250 runs (243), but Rutherford scored around 48 runs (46 in the middle order). It’s not a bad start. So, I don’t think we are at all concerned about the middle order,” stated Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill after the win over Mumbai Indians.
Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill admitted that there were a lot of positive for his team during the win against Mumbai Indians. The opening duo of Shubman and Sudharsan smashed a total of 78 runs in just 8.3 overs to provide a fine start at the top. On the other hand, right-arm speedster Prasidh Krishna was superb at the death as he removed the dangerous looking duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to shift the game in his team's favour. The Gujarat Titans will now be facing the in-form Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 2 April, 2025 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
“So many things… the way we started off in the power play. On this kind of wicket, scoring close to 200 runs is a great confidence for us going into the second innings. I think the way we bowled in the middle, everything went our way in this match. I think each team has their own strengths and the way they like to play a certain type of cricket. I think this kind of wicket suits our batting and bowling overall… strength of our team more than on the red soil,” added Shubman.
“We just don’t want all the games to be 240–250 runs. I feel if there are such high-scoring games, the skill out of cricket, it takes away from that," he concluded.
