Shubman Gill will be seen leading team in the Duleep Trophy

After finishing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by lifting the trophy and ending a 17-year title drought, the Indian team will now be preparing for the next big challenge: the ICC World Test Championship, scheduled for March 2025. The road to this marquee event will begin with the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, where Rohit Sharma and Co. will play 2 Tests and 3 T20Is starting next week. Following that, the Indian players will participate in the upcoming domestic cricket tournament starting on September 5, 2024, to prepare for the important Test series against New Zealand and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, where India will travel to Australia for 5 Test Matches.

This domestic tournament will be crucial for players aiming to return to the Indian team in the longer formats. In this league, India’s ace players Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja will participate. Additionally, India’s star batter Gill is set to lead the Indian team after his impressive performance as vice-captain in the recently concluded Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka series.

The star batter was part of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 as one of the 3 reserved players, alongside Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan. He was selected after impressive performances with the bat, finishing the tournament with 426 runs in 12 matches, averaging 37, with 1 century and 2 half-centuries at a strike rate of 147.
