"It's a terrible incident" - Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly registers his take on the brutal Kolkata rape case
Former Indian skipper and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly previously landed in controversy after his remarks, terming the case as a “one-off incident,” went viral on the internet. However, the Bengal-born cricketer has now clarified his stance, calling for the strictest punishment for the culprits. Ganguly also expressed that his earlier remarks were taken out of context but emphasized that the brutal case is a terrible incident.
"I said that last Sunday, I don't know how it was constructed or interpreted. I have said it earlier also, it's a terrible thing. Now the CBI, police are investigating the matter. It's very shameful what has happened. I hope that the CBI, who are investigating the matter, once they find the culprit, strict punishment should be given. The punishment should be such that no one dares to commit such a crime again in their life. That is important. Punishment has to be severe," Sourav Ganguly said in his latest statement.
Previously, ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah also posted about the incident, calling for a safer environment for women. The World Cup-winning bowler took to his Instagram to share a hard-hitting message in reference to the Kolkata rape case: "Don’t tell women to change their path – change the terrain.
