Ganguly, in particular, commended Fraser-McGurk's unwavering determination, highlighting his hunger for success and his relentless desire to excel on the field. "He’s just 22 and he has got a long career. With Ricky around he guided Jake very well. What I like about him is he’s hungry, he wants to play well. I know he missed out on the World Cup, Australia should have probably picked him. But that’s the way it goes when you have so many good players in Warner, Travis Head and Mitch Marsh at three, you will obviously miss out," said Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly.
“But he’s just 22 and he has got a long career. For us, he is a game changer and that’s what you need in this format," he added.
Fraser-McGurk's evolution owes much to Ponting's mentorship, which emphasized the nuances of balance and timing in batting. Under Ponting's guidance, the youngster gleaned invaluable insights, refining his approach to the crease.
In the IPL, Fraser-McGurk's narrative took an unexpected turn. Initially overlooked at the auction, fate intervened when he stepped in as an injury replacement for Lungi Ngidi. Since then, his journey with Delhi has been nothing short of remarkable. From an unforeseen addition to a pivotal presence, he's seamlessly integrated into Delhi's lineup, proving himself as a dependable asset on the field. Through Ponting's tutelage and his own perseverance, Fraser-McGurk has carved a niche for himself in one of cricket's most demanding leagues, demonstrating the profound impact of mentorship and seizing opportunities with aplomb.
